Getting from the Airport
The city's main gateway, José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE), is located near the new business district and sits adjacent to the international bus station. There are several ways to reach the city center from the airport:
- Taxi: Taxis are available at the airport. A ride to a hotel in the northern suburbs typically costs around $3, while a trip to the downtown area—where most major attractions are located—is approximately $5.
- Bus: The airport is located near the Rio Daule terminal. This terminal is situated across the street from the main bus terminal and is some blocks away (around 15 minutes walking) from the airport.
Public Transit Systems

- Metrovía: This is a modern bus rapid transit (BRT) system that operates on routes running north-to-south and east-to-west. It utilizes modern buses and dedicated stations. To use Metrovía, you can pay with cash or an electronic card called "la Tarjeta Metrovía." The fare per ride costs 25 cents (as of 2017).
