Getting Around Bordj el Kiffan

Bordj el Kiffan sits in the eastern part of Algiers, close to Matares Beach and directly north of Houari Boumediene International Airport, with a direct highway link to the capital. For a visitor, that geography shapes everything: the suburb is well connected to central Algiers and to the exhibition and airport zones by bus, tram and taxi, and you can manage comfortably without renting a car.

Public Transport: Bus and Tram

Two public modes do most of the work for visitors: the ETUSA bus network and the Algiers tramway. Both are inexpensive, and both link Bordj el Kiffan to central Algiers and to the Pins Maritimes exhibition area.

Buying tickets is done at the point of travel — on board or at station counters depending on the mode — and fares are low enough that a pass is rarely necessary for a short stay. Note that public transport lines, routes, stops and schedules can change, so it is worth checking current information before you set out.

Metro and Rail Connections

Bordj el Kiffan itself is not on the metro, but the metro is useful as part of a combined trip. From central Algiers you can take the metro and transfer to the tram to reach Foire d'Alger or Les Pins and then walk to the Palais des Expositions. For a visitor based in Bordj el Kiffan, the practical pattern is the reverse: take the bus or tram into the city, then use the metro to reach other parts of Algiers.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Taxis are the quickest door-to-door option and are widely available. A taxi between Bordj el Kiffan and Alger Centre takes roughly the same time as the bus — about a quarter of an hour — but costs considerably more, in the region of nine to twelve dollars. For groups or travellers with luggage, that can still be good value.

Driving and Walkability

By road, Bordj el Kiffan is a short drive from central Algiers, with a direct highway connection from the capital. Driving from central Algiers along the Corniche eastbound takes roughly twenty to thirty minutes outside peak hours. Peak times to avoid are the morning rush, around 7:30–9am, and the evening rush, around 5–7pm. Parking at the exhibition centre is paid, with separate visitor and exhibitor areas.

Walking is best thought of as local rather than city-wide: the suburb is compact enough to stroll between nearby streets, the seafront and Matares Beach, but the distances to central Algiers and the airport are too great to cover on foot. Use walking for the last stretch — for example, from Foire d'Alger or Les Pins to the Palais des Expositions — and public transport or a taxi for everything else.

Getting from the Airport into the City

Houari Boumediene International Airport lies just south of Bordj el Kiffan, and the exhibition venue at Pins Maritimes is only a few kilometres from the airport. That makes the area around Bordj el Kiffan a convenient first stop if you are arriving by air.

Whichever mode you choose, allow extra time during the morning and evening rush hours, and check current routes and schedules before travelling, as services can change.
