Getting Around Qianjiang
Qianjiang is a district of Chongqing in southwest China, and getting around it is fairly straightforward for a visitor. The city is served by a compact mix of local buses, taxis and ride-hailing, plus a railway station and a small airport that connect it to the wider region. This guide covers the practical options for moving around town and for reaching the city from the airport.
Arriving by Rail
Qianjiang Railway Station sits near Qianzhou Avenue in Zhengyang Town and is the main rail gateway to the city. The station building was completed and brought into use as part of the Chongqing–Qianjiang section of the Chongqing–Hunan high-speed railway, so high-speed services now serve the city. If you arrive by train, you can continue into the downtown area by local bus or taxi.
Buses
Buses are the workhorse of public transport in Qianjiang and the easiest way for a visitor to get around without a car. Almost all of the downtown area is covered by bus stops, and buses run to the railway station, the airport and the main downtown shopping mall, so the network links the places a visitor is most likely to want to reach.
- Hours: Most buses operate from around 6:00 to 22:00.
- Airport caveat: The last bus from the airport into the city leaves at 19:30, so plan your arrival accordingly if you intend to use the bus.
- Buying tickets: Fares are typically paid on board; have small change or a local payment app ready.
Long-Distance Buses
For travel beyond the city, Qianjiang South Bus Station is the main coach terminal. It is located on Shicheng Road and is reachable by local bus — routes 101, 102, 103, 106, 108, 111, 112 and 503 stop at the Bus South Station stop, from which it is roughly a one-minute walk. The station is open from 10:00 to 20:40, and its phone number is +86 23-79232658 if you need to check schedules.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis are a convenient option for short trips around the downtown area and for reaching the railway station or airport, particularly outside bus hours. Ride-hailing apps work in Qianjiang as they do elsewhere in Chongqing, and are useful when you don't speak Chinese or want a fixed price. As with any city, agree on the fare or confirm the app price before setting off, and keep your destination written in Chinese to show the driver.
Walkability
The downtown core is compact enough that walking is practical for short errands and for reaching nearby shops and restaurants, and bus stops are spread across almost the whole downtown area, so you are rarely far from public transport. For longer hops between the downtown, the railway station and the airport, though, you will want to use a bus or a taxi rather than walk.
Getting from the Airport into the City
Qianjiang Wulingshan Airport serves Chongqing municipality and is located on Airport Road in the town of Zhoubai. It has routes to Beijing, Guangzhou, Xi'an and the main urban area of Chongqing, making it a practical arrival point for visitors coming from those cities.
- By bus: Local buses connect the airport with the city, and the last bus from the airport into town departs at 19:30 — so if your flight lands later, plan on a taxi or ride-hailing instead.
- By taxi or ride-hailing: Available for the trip into the city and the most reliable option for late arrivals.
- Airport contact: +86 23-79850777 if you need to confirm details.
Practical Tips
- Keep the railway station phone number (+86 23-64788102) and the South Bus Station number (+86 23-79232658) handy for schedule checks.
- Note the early airport bus cutoff (19:30) when booking flights or planning your arrival.
- Most buses run from 6:00 to 22:00, so late-night travel generally means a taxi or ride-hailing.
- Have your destination written in Chinese to make taxi and bus journeys smoother.
