Getting Around Hechuan
Hechuan is a district in the northern part of Chongqing Municipality, sitting where the Jialing, Fu and Qu rivers meet. It lies some distance from downtown Chongqing's Yuzhong District, and it was formerly a county-level city before being incorporated into Chongqing as a district. For a visitor, the practical upshot is a compact, river-focused city with a straightforward set of transport options: local buses, taxis and ride-hailing, rentable bicycles, and a mainline railway station linking it to the rest of Chongqing.
Arriving in Hechuan
Two main gateways serve visitors coming from elsewhere in Chongqing.
- By train: Hechuan Railway Station, on Gaoyang Avenue, is the main railway station serving the city. There are frequent trains from Chongqing, with the journey taking roughly 25–40 minutes, making the train a convenient option for visitors arriving from Chongqing. - By long-distance bus: Hechuan Bus Terminal, at 2 Beihuan Road, is the city's main long-distance bus station. Buses arrive here from multiple bus stations in central Chongqing, including Chenjiaping Bus Station, Chongqing West Bus Station and Hongqihegou Bus Station, among several others. Getting from the Airport
If you are flying in, the bus from Chongqing Jiangbei Airport terminates at Hechuan Bus Terminal. That makes the long-distance bus the direct public-transport link between the airport and Hechuan; from the terminal you can continue onward by local bus, taxi or ride-hailing to your accommodation or the sights.
Buses
Public buses cover the main urban areas and many of the tourist attractions in Hechuan, and they are an inexpensive way to travel around the city. If you are arriving at Hechuan Bus Terminal, note that multiple public buses stop outside the station, including bus nos. 118, 128, 528, 632, 808A, 808B, 813, 815, 825, 919, 959A and 959B — handy for continuing your journey into town after a long-distance arrival.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis and ride-hailing services are convenient for travelling between the railway station, the city centre and tourist attractions. They are a good choice when you are carrying luggage, arriving late, or heading somewhere that is not directly on a bus route.
Bicycles and Walking
Bicycles can be rented for exploring the riverside areas, and cycling along the rivers is a good way to enjoy Hechuan's scenery. Given the city's setting at the meeting point of three rivers, the riverside is where self-powered exploring pays off most.
Practical Tips
- For journeys from central Chongqing, the train is usually the simplest option — frequent departures and a short ride into Hechuan Railway Station.
- If you are coming straight from Chongqing Jiangbei Airport, look for the bus to Hechuan Bus Terminal rather than trying to piece together a rail connection.
- Once in Hechuan, local buses are the cheapest way to reach the main urban areas and attractions; taxis and ride-hailing fill the gaps between the railway station, city centre and sights.
- Rent a bicycle if you want to see the rivers up close — the riverside routes are the highlight for cyclists.
