Getting Your Bearings
Jiangyou is a county-level city in Mianyang, Sichuan, and the hometown of the Tang dynasty poet Li Bai. The city proper is divided into four urban districts, and it also administers a large number of towns and rural townships spread across the surrounding countryside. For a visitor, that means the practical geography splits neatly in two: a compact urban core where most day-to-day needs are within reach, and a wider rural area of towns and villages that you would only visit with a specific destination in mind.
Arriving by Rail
Jiangyou Railway Station is the anchor of the city's transport network and the most useful arrival point for most visitors. It sits on Jianshe North Road in the city, bordered by Jianshe North Road and Yingbin Road to the west, Dongshan Road to the east, and Jiangdong Road to the south, with a highway-rail overpass crossing to the north.
The station is served by two rail lines: the Xi'an–Chengdu High-Speed Railway and the older Baoji–Chengdu Railway. It is an intermediate stop on both rather than a terminus, which means trains pass through in both directions and you should check your specific service rather than assume a particular departure pattern. High-speed EMU services began calling here when the Xi'an–Chengdu high-speed line opened.
Practically speaking, the station handles both high-speed and conventional trains, so your ticket-buying experience depends on which you take:
- High-speed EMU trains: electronic tickets have been in use since 2015, and you enter by swiping a second-generation ID card.
- Conventional trains: electronic ticketing arrived later, and you can enter by ID swipe or QR code.
In other words, you generally do not need a paper ticket — bring the ID document your ticket was issued against and use it at the gate. Note that the station does not offer express luggage and parcels service, so plan to carry your own bags.
The station building itself is laid out with an "entry from above, exit from below" flow, with separate waiting halls and a level station building. There is a designated waiting area for passengers with special needs, staff assistance available, designated ticket windows for disabled passengers, and wheelchairs in the waiting hall. A parking lot sits in front of the station square, which is where you will find taxis and pickups. The station's design references Jiangyou's identity as Li Bai's hometown, and a flower bed at the entrance is inscribed "Li Bai's Hometown, Beautiful Jiangyou."
One caution: there is also a Jiangyou North Railway Station on the high-speed line, which is a different station from Jiangyou Railway Station. Check which one your ticket names before you set out.
Metro and Tram
Jiangyou has no metro or tram network. Rail travel here means the national railway stations described above, not an urban transit system. Plan your movements around buses, taxis, and walking instead.
Buses
Local bus routes are the main way to move around the city without a car, and the railway station is a well-served hub. Several routes connect the station to other parts of town, including:
- Route 1: Jiangyou Coach Station ↔ Jiangyou Railway Station — useful if you are connecting between intercity coach and rail.
- Route 2: City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine East Station ↔ Jiangyou Railway Station.
- Route 8: City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Station ↔ Shenjiagou Health and Wellness Base Station.
- Route 14: Huafeng Village Station ↔ Jiangdian New Gate Station.
- Route 16: Sichuan Preschool Educators College West Campus Station ↔ East Campus Station.
- Fantawild Special Line: Jiangyou Railway Station ↔ Fantawild North Station — the route to take if you are heading to the Fantawild theme park.
For a visitor, the takeaway is that the railway station and the coach station are linked by bus, and that a dedicated line runs to the Fantawild attraction. Fares and payment methods are not documented here, so carry small change or a local payment app as a fallback and confirm the current arrangement on arrival.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis are available at the railway station, where a parking lot in front of the station square serves as the pickup point. This is the most straightforward option if you are arriving with luggage or heading somewhere the bus routes do not reach.
Getting Around on Foot
The city proper is divided into four urban districts, which suggests a core compact enough that walking works well for local errands, meals, and short hops between nearby destinations. Walking is also the natural way to explore the city's Li Bai connections. For anything beyond the central districts — the surrounding towns and rural townships — you will want a bus, taxi, or car, since the administered area is large and spread out.
Airport Connections
The practical route for most air travellers is therefore to fly into a nearby regional gateway and continue by rail: Jiangyou Railway Station is an intermediate stop on both the Xi'an–Chengdu High-Speed Railway and the Baoji–Chengdu Railway, so high-speed and conventional trains connect the city to the wider region. If you are arriving by air, plan your onward leg as a train into Jiangyou Railway Station and then a local bus or taxi to your accommodation. Confirm current flight and rail connections before you travel, since schedules change.
