Getting Around Sanshui
Sanshui is a district of Foshan in Guangdong province, and its transport network is geared mainly toward local buses, with rail connections to the wider region and a metro line on the way. For a visitor, the practical picture is simple: buses and taxis or ride-hailing will cover most day-to-day trips, walking works well in the central areas, and longer journeys to Guangzhou or elsewhere in Foshan are best made by rail or expressway.
Rail Connections
Sanshui sits on the railway line running from Guangzhou to Maoming, so conventional rail is a realistic option for reaching the district and for onward travel. The district is also served by major expressways, including the G15 Shenyang–Haikou Expressway, which gives access to Kaiping and the southern suburbs of Foshan, and the G55 Erenhot–Guangzhou Expressway, which provides direct access to downtown Guangzhou. National Highway 321 links Sanshui toward Zhaoqing, while National Highway 324 also passes through the area.
Metro
Foshan Metro Line 4 is under construction and is planned to serve Sanshui, with an elevated section running through the district's urban core. Stations mentioned in connection with this section include Xiqing Boulevard and Sanshui Hospital. The line is working toward an operational target of 2026 under the Foshan Rail Transit Phase II Construction Plan. Until it opens, visitors should not count on metro service within Sanshui itself.
Buses and Public Transport
Buses are the backbone of local movement in Sanshui. Sanshui Square is the main hub and terminus for many routes, making it the natural place to start, transfer, or finish a trip. A second useful stop nearby is Huifeng Garden.
Routes from the Sanshui Square area fan out to a wide range of destinations, including residential neighbourhoods, industrial parks, a hot spring resort, a forest park, and rail stations. Examples of the kind of coverage you can expect include:
- Local routes linking Sanshui Square with outlying terminals and villages, such as services toward Sanshui Forest Park, Baiwei Avenue, Qingqi Terminal, Danzao Bus Station, and Cuikeng Village.
- Routes connecting the bus station and railway station with the rest of the district, including services to Dongying Terminal, Leping Terminal, and the Railway Station.
- Services reaching leisure and institutional destinations, such as the Sanshui Hot Spring Resort and the Culture Park, and routes serving university gates.
- At least one cross-city service, Guangfo City Bus 4, which runs toward Luochongwei Bus Station and provides an intercity link in the direction of Guangzhou.
Fares are not published in the sources used here; the practical approach is to check a transit app such as Moovit for current routes, times, and prices, since route lists from aggregators can be incomplete or out of date. Note also that some route numbers have variants or shuttles, so confirm the exact service before boarding.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
As in most of urban Guangdong, these are a normal fallback for trips that buses do not cover conveniently, for late-night travel, or for reaching specific addresses. Treat them as a complement to the bus network rather than a documented feature of the district's published transport information.
Walking
Walking is practical in central Sanshui, particularly around Sanshui Square, where stops, shops, and services cluster closely together. The area around the square is compact enough that short trips on foot make sense, and the nearby Huifeng Garden stop is only a few minutes away. Outside the core, distances grow and the bus network becomes the more sensible choice.
Getting In from the Airport
The reference material does not identify an airport serving Sanshui or describe a direct airport transfer. What it does show is that Sanshui is well connected by road and rail: the G55 expressway gives direct access to downtown Guangzhou, and the Guangzhou–Maoming railway line passes through the district. In practice, a visitor arriving by air would typically reach Sanshui via Guangzhou and then continue by rail, expressway coach, or road. Because no airport-specific guidance is available in the sources, confirm current transfer options locally or through a transit app before travelling.
