Getting Around Jing'an

Jing'an, China

Orientation

Jing'an is a central district of Shanghai, and the practical anchor for most visitors is the area around Jing'an Temple. The district sits immediately west of Huangpu (the historic core, including the Bund) and north of the French Concession, which makes it easy to reach on foot from either direction as well as by public transport.

Getting Around by Metro

The metro is the backbone of visitor movement in Jing'an. Two lines serve the district directly:

For a visitor, this means the district connects in three useful directions: east toward the Huangpu riverfront and the shopping streets, south into the French Concession, and north along Line 7. Jing'an Temple station is the natural hub to aim for, since both lines meet there.

Buses and Other Public Transport

Beyond the metro, buses serve the district and the wider city. The source material specifically notes bus services linking Jing'an with the airport city terminal (see below), so buses are a practical option for both local hops and the airport connection rather than only for sightseeing.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Taxis and ride-hailing apps are a normal way to move around Shanghai, and they are useful in Jing'an for trips that do not line up neatly with the metro, or for door-to-door journeys with luggage. The airport city terminal described below is a convenient fixed pickup and drop-off point in the district if you are meeting a car.

Walkability

Jing'an is genuinely walkable, and walking is often the simplest way to enter the district from neighbouring areas:

Once inside the district, the metro stations, the main shopping road, and the temple area are close enough together that a combination of walking and short metro hops covers most visitor needs.

Getting In from the Airport

Shanghai Airport City Building (SACB), also known as the Shanghai City Air Terminal, is located in one of the malls above Jing'an Temple metro station, at 1600 Nanjing West. This is the key arrival point for air travellers heading into Jing'an: it functions as an in-city air terminal, and buses run to and from it. If you are arriving by air, the city terminal above Jing'an Temple station is the most direct link between the airport side of your journey and the district itself.
