Understanding Humen's Setting

Humen is a town in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, sitting on the eastern shore of the Bocca Tigris — the narrow strait also known as the Bogue, where the Pearl River meets the South China Sea. Across the water lies Guangzhou's Nansha District, and the two shores are linked by the Humen Pearl River Bridge. For a visitor, the practical upshot is that Humen is well connected to the wider Pearl River Delta, and its main transport hub is the high-speed rail station.

Arriving by High-Speed Rail

The centrepiece of travel in and out of Humen is Humen Railway Station, located in Baisha Village within Humen Town, on the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong High-Speed Railway. If you are coming from Guangzhou, Shenzhen or Hong Kong, this is likely to be your arrival point.

The station is laid out over three floors, and knowing this in advance makes the experience much smoother:

Departing from Humen follows a set sequence: arrive by metro, taxi, bus or car; pass through security and a real-name ID check to enter the departures hall (bring your passport); locate your boarding gate using the gate number in your booking confirmation; note that the gate opens roughly twenty to fifteen minutes before departure and closes five minutes before; then pass the ticket check with your passport and confirmation number, find your platform and board.

On the ticketing side, there are ticket offices on the first floor. Since late 2019, electronic tickets have been available on most high-speed and bullet train routes to and from Humen, which means international travellers can generally check in and board directly with a passport without collecting a paper ticket first. If you prefer a physical ticket, you can still collect one.

On arrival, follow the signs to the exits and show your passport and confirmation number (or paper ticket) to staff to check out, then continue by metro, bus, taxi or car.

Metro

Metro Line 2 is the recommended way to leave or reach Humen Railway Station. It connects the station with other Dongguan towns, Dongguan's downtown, and Dongguan Railway Station. Access is via Exit B. Trains run from early morning until around half past ten at night, and a one-way fare costs a modest amount depending on how far you travel. For most visitors, this is the simplest and cheapest link between the rail station and the rest of Dongguan.

Buses

A number of bus routes serve or pass Humen Railway Station, with stops on the station square on the first floor. Buses are a useful fallback for reaching parts of town the metro does not cover directly, though for a short visit the metro is usually the easier option.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Taxis pick up and drop off on the station square at Humen Railway Station. Fares are metered and vary by distance and time of day, with higher rates applying at night. Taxis are a straightforward choice if you have luggage or are heading somewhere not served by the metro, and ride-hailing apps work in the same way as elsewhere in China — arrange your pickup at the designated station square area rather than at the terminal doors.

Getting Around on Foot

Walking is practical for short hops within a single area — around the station, along a waterfront, or between nearby shops and restaurants — but Humen is a sprawling industrial and port town rather than a compact tourist centre, so you should expect to combine walking with metro, bus or taxi for most journeys. The station itself is designed to be navigated on foot across its three floors, with clear separation of arrivals, departures and transport connections.

Reaching the City from the Airport

The source material for this guide does not describe airport transfers into Humen, so no specific airport route can be given here. The reliable approach is to treat Humen Railway Station as your gateway: from the wider region's airports, make your way to the high-speed rail network and travel to Humen station, then continue into town by Metro Line 2, bus or taxi. Confirm current airport-to-rail connections locally before you travel, as these change.
