Getting Around Fushun

Fushun is a compact, heavily built-up city on the Hun River in Liaoning province, and most of the places a visitor wants to reach are within the urban core. The practical picture is simple: the city is convenient by taxi or bus, ride-hailing apps are the easiest way to summon a car, and the rail network is mainly useful for arriving from or leaving for neighbouring cities rather than for moving around town. English is not widely spoken, so it helps to carry your destination written in Chinese, along with an offline translation app.

Rail: Arriving and Leaving

Fushun has two train stations, the North Station and the South Station. Trains pass through them from places such as Shenyang, Beijing, Tumen and Tonghua, as well as other cities along those routes. Fushun is also closely integrated with neighbouring Shenyang by rail, and many regional trains pass through the local stations. For a visitor, the stations are best thought of as gateways in and out of the city rather than as a way to get across it.

If you need to call the South Station, its telephone number is +86 41 3262 4816.

Buses and Coaches

Two bus stations sit next to the North and South train stations, and routes from them run throughout the city. This makes the train stations useful interchange points: you can step off a train and pick up a local bus from the adjacent bus station.

For longer trips, intercity buses link Fushun with destinations across Liaoning province and are a budget-friendly option. The most frequent service is from Shenyang, with regular departures throughout the day, so you do not need to plan around a strict timetable. There are also established routes from Tieling and Benxi, and less frequent services to other cities in Liaoning and Jilin, including a direct bus to and from Beijing.

The Shenyang–Fushun coach is the classic arrival route. Buses run between Shenyang (from Minzhu Lu, opposite the south railway station) and Fushun South railway station from 5AM until 7PM every day. They leave when full, which can be as often as every ten minutes. The fare is ¥10 and the journey takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Along the way the bus stops at various tourist sites — Dongling, the Garden Expo and Royal Ocean World — to pick up or drop off passengers. On entering Fushun, it passes the south station, then takes a circuitous route around the whole city before stopping back at the south station again. The bus company can be reached on +86 413 7614552.

Some of Fushun's outlying attractions are reachable by bus from Fushun South station. The route serving the Yongling tomb and Hetu Ala City (Xing City) world heritage sites runs every half an hour between 7:30AM and 4:30PM, with a fare of ¥16.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Taxis are one of the most convenient ways to get around Fushun. Hailing a free taxi on the street can be difficult, however, so ride-hailing apps such as Didi are recommended; they are widely used and prices are predictable. If you do take a street taxi, make sure the official meter is switched on. Be wary of illegal "black taxis" near the stations, which are known to overcharge.

Walking

The city proper is compact, and central areas are walkable for short trips between nearby destinations. For anything beyond a short stroll, though, the practical options are taxi, ride-hailing or bus. Fushun is generally a safe city, and local etiquette values politeness and restraint — a slight nod when greeting is customary, and loud public arguments are best avoided.

From the Airport into the City

Fushun has no civil airport of its own. The nearest and most useful hub is Shenyang Taoxian International Airport (SHE), which handles domestic and international flights for the region, including services to destinations across China as well as Japan, North and South Korea, Russia and other international routes. The transfer by road from Taoxian to Fushun takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes, or around an hour depending on traffic and route.

Other airports in the region are considerably less convenient: Tieling (TTV) and Benxi (BYE) are both further away and involve longer transfers, so Taoxian is the practical choice for almost all visitors.

By road, the Shenfu Express Way connects Fushun with Shenyang, a journey of about 30 minutes. From Shenyang, a number of expressways radiate out to other cities in Liaoning and neighbouring provinces. Road tolls apply on paid highway sections. If you would rather not drive, the Shenyang–Fushun coach described above is a cheap and frequent alternative, and ride-hailing apps offer a predictable door-to-door option from the airport.
