Getting Around Xingyi
Xingyi is a small city, but its transport options are surprisingly varied for its size. Getting around is generally convenient, and visitors can choose between taxis, city buses, rental cars, and bicycles depending on where they are headed and how much flexibility they want.
Arriving by Air
Xingyi Wanfeng Airport is the main air gateway to the city and the surrounding area. It sits northeast of town and handles a modest number of flights from cities such as Guiyang, Kunming, Chongqing, and Guangzhou. Because the flight schedule is relatively limited, it is worth confirming your flights before you commit to a travel plan.
From the airport into the city, you have two straightforward options: a taxi or the airport bus. Either way, the transfer takes roughly twenty to thirty minutes by car.
Rail Stations
Xingyi has two railway stations, and which one you use depends on the kind of train you are taking.
- Xingyi Railway Station on Baiyun Road is the older station. It serves regular-speed trains from Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanning, and Kunming. Several city bus routes connect it to the rest of Xingyi.
- Xingyi South Railway Station on Donghuan Road in Fengdu Subdistrict is the newer station, opened in 2025. It handles high-speed trains from Guiyang, Anshun, Tongren, Zunyi, and most other cities in Guizhou, as well as from Chengdu and Chongqing. The station sits on the west side of the airport terminal, and special tourist buses link it to the airport and to major attractions such as Wanfenglin Scenic Area. To reach the downtown area, take bus no. 1.
Buses and Public Transport
Xingyi's public transport system is simple and the fares are cheap. City buses run on many lines and mainly connect the important areas of town. That said, because the city is small, bus coverage is limited, and reaching some attractions by city bus may be less convenient than taking a taxi or driving yourself.
For longer trips, long-distance buses are often the main way to reach nearby attractions such as Huangguoshu Waterfall. The city also has many long-distance bus stations offering services from surrounding cities, including Guiyang, Kunming, Chongqing, and Guangzhou.
Inside many scenic areas, such as Wanfenglin Stone Forest and Natural Bridge, dedicated scenic buses provide connections between the sights. These are aimed at visitors who would rather not walk, with reasonable fares and routes that run directly to the main attractions.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis are common in Xingyi and are one of the most convenient ways to get around the city. You can flag one down at the roadside or book through ride-hailing apps such as Didi Travel. Fares within the urban area are generally low, but expect to pay more if you are heading out to more distant attractions like Wanfenglin.
Driving and Renting a Car
If you plan to explore Xingyi and the natural scenery around it, such as Wanfeng Forest and Natural Bridge, renting a car is a very convenient option. There are car rental companies in the city that can supply cars or SUVs. Note that the region's highways also connect Xingyi with Anshun, Guiyang, and Kunming, and driving in from those cities is a scenic option for self-driving travellers.
Bicycles and Electric Vehicles
For short trips in the city and around nearby scenic spots, bicycles and electric vehicles are handy. Many hotels and rental locations offer bicycle and electric bicycle rental, which suits visitors who want to move at a relaxed pace in town or close to the attractions.
Walking
Xingyi is a compact city, so walking works well for getting around the central areas. For anything beyond the immediate downtown, though, the city's limited bus coverage and the spread-out nature of the surrounding attractions mean that taxis, rental cars, or bicycles are usually more practical.
