Getting Around Zhongxiang

Zhongxiang is a county-level city of Jingmen in central Hubei province, and the practical transport picture for a visitor is fairly simple: local buses, taxis and ride-hailing cover the built-up area, a railway station connects the city to the wider region, and the nearest commercial air links are reached through Jingmen's transport hubs rather than from an airport inside Zhongxiang itself.

Local Buses

Buses are the mainstay of public transport in the Zhongxiang area. Routes cover major parts of the city, including the railway station and the bus station, and fares are affordable, making buses the economical choice for getting around.

Because the same routes (notably nos. 2 and 3) link the railway station and the bus station, arriving by train and continuing by coach within the region is straightforward. Tickets are bought on board, and the low fares mean you do not need to worry about passes for short stays.

Rail

Zhongxiang has its own railway station, Zhongxiang Railway Station, on Shicheng Avenue East. For longer-distance travel, the wider Jingmen area is served by Jingmen Railway Station (4 Longquan Avenue, Dongbao District) and Jingmen East Station, the high-speed rail station. Together these provide both high-speed and regular train services, making it convenient to travel from major Hubei cities such as Wuhan and Yichang, as well as to other parts of the country.

There is no metro or tram network in Zhongxiang or Jingmen; rail here means intercity and high-speed trains, not urban rapid transit. If you are heading to Jingmen Railway Station, the nearest bus stop is Quankou Police Station, about 300 metres south of the station, served by bus nos. 1, 3, 9, 12 and 38.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Taxis in the Jingmen area are reasonably priced, with a starting fare of around ¥6–8, which suits short trips. Ride-hailing services such as Didi and CaoCao are widely available and convenient to use. For a visitor, this makes taxis and app-based cars a good option for reaching sights outside the immediate bus network or for late arrivals at the railway station.

Walking and Cycling

The urban layout of the Jingmen area is well planned, making cycling and walking ideal for exploring the city. Public bike rental stations are available throughout the city for residents and visitors, so you can pick up a bike for short hops without committing to a rental for the whole day.

Long-Distance Buses

For travel beyond Zhongxiang, the region has several bus terminals offering long-distance services to nearby towns and other cities. The key ones for a visitor are:

Getting There from the Airport

Zhongxiang does not have its own commercial airport. The nearest air infrastructure is Zhanghe Airport in Jingmen, which primarily provides general aviation services and short-haul flights; commercial flights there are few, though the aviation infrastructure is steadily improving.

For practical purposes, most visitors flying in will use Wuhan Tianhe International Airport. Buses from that airport arrive at Jingmen South Bus Station in Duodao District, from where you can continue by local bus (nos. 4, 9, 15 and 56 serve the station) or by taxi and ride-hailing to Zhongxiang. Alternatively, you can connect by train via Jingmen Railway Station or Jingmen East Station, both of which offer high-speed and regular services from major Hubei cities including Wuhan.

By Car

Jingmen is a hub in Hubei's transport network, with major highways such as the Shanghai–Chengdu Expressway (G42) and the Erguang Expressway (G55) passing through. Self-driving is a good way to explore the surrounding countryside and attractions. Popular destinations such as the Zhanghe Scenic Area, Love Aviation Town and the Xianling Mausoleum in Zhongxiang are easily accessible by car, with ample parking facilities.
