Getting to Xiaogan

Xiaogan sits in east-central Hubei province, northwest of the provincial capital Wuhan, and most visitors arrive from Wuhan. The Wikivoyage guide describes two main rail approaches, depending on which part of Wuhan you are starting from.

Arriving by air

Wuhan's Tianhe Airport is the practical air gateway for Xiaogan. Because the airport has its own station on the CHR line, you can transfer straight from your flight onto a high-speed train to Xiaogan Railway Station East — the Wikivoyage guide notes this leg takes only around fifteen minutes. In effect, the airport functions as a rail interchange as much as an air one, so you do not need to travel into central Wuhan first.

Rail and metro

Xiaogan's rail connections are oriented around its links with Wuhan. Two stations matter to visitors: Xiaogan Railway Station East, served by CHR high-speed trains and the arrival point for travellers coming from Hankou or Tianhe Airport, and Xiaogan Railway Station, served by trains from Wuchang. On the Wuhan side, the Wuhan Metro feeds into both Hankou station and Tianhe Airport station, where you change onto the CHR service.

Buses

Long-distance bus services connect Xiaogan with Wuhan: the route from Gutian Road (1st) in Qiaokou District runs directly to Xiaogan Bus Station.

Taxis and ride-hailing

As with any Chinese city of this size, these are normally available, but you should check current options and apps locally rather than relying on this guide.

Walking

What it does make clear is the geography: the built-up urban core is Xiaonan District, and Xiaogan Railway Station East sits in the east of that district, so arrivals by high-speed rail land within the central urban area rather than on its outskirts.
