Shangqiu serves as a significant regional transportation hub due to its location at the junction of several major railways. For travelers navigating the city, understanding the distinct roles of the various transit networks is key to moving efficiently between local landmarks and neighboring regions.
Rail and Regional Connectivity
The city is well-connected to the rest of China via an extensive rail network. Several major lines pass through the area, including the Longhai Railway, Jingjiu Railway, and Xulan High-speed Railway. Additionally, a high-speed railway connecting Shangqiu to Hangzhou is under construction.
There are two primary railway stations in the city, each serving different lines:
- Shangqiu Railway Station: The main station, located on Zhanqian Road in the Liangyuan District. It serves both the Longhai and Xulan High-speed Railways.
- Shangqiu South Railway Station: A smaller station located on Nanjing Road, primarily serving trains along the Jingjiu Railway.
Bus Services
Buses provide both long-distance connections and local transit within the urban districts of Liangyuan and Suiyang. Long-distance buses frequently arrive from nearby cities such as Zhengzhou, Xuzhou, Zhoukou, Bozhou, Heze, and Kaifeng. Travelers can typically purchase tickets at designated stations or by hailing passing buses along their routes.
There are three main hubs for long-distance and regional bus travel:
- Shangqiu Central Bus Station: Located directly across Zhanqian Road from the Shangqiu Railway Station, making it a convenient primary choice for those transferring from trains.
- Shangqiu Main Bus Station: An older facility located on Kaixuan Road.
- Shangqiu Wanli Bus Station: This station is used specifically for local buses servicing nearby towns and smaller cities.
Taxis and Shared Mobility
Taxis provide a convenient way to navigate the city with specific pricing structures. A standard fare starts at 5 yuan for the first 2 kilometers. Beyond that, the rate is 1 yuan per kilometer until 10 kilometers, after which it increases to 1.5 yuan per kilometer.
For shorter trips or local exploration, shared bicycles are available throughout the downtown area and in major towns within the surrounding counties.
Airport Access
The city's airport, formerly known as Gui'de Airbase, serves as a point of entry for travelers arriving by air. While the site has historical significance as a former military base, it currently functions as the primary aviation gateway for the region.
