Getting from the Airport
Changzhou Benniu International Airport is located in the Xinbei District. It is situated approximately 15 kilometers from the city center, making it relatively accessible for travelers arriving by air.
Rail and Metro Networks
The city features a multi-layered rail infrastructure that connects local and regional travel. There are two primary railway stations located near each other and connected by an underground walkway and a metro link:
- Changzhou North Station: This station serves high-speed (G) and slightly slower (D) trains, primarily connecting the city to major hubs like Shanghai and Nanjing.
- Changzhou Station: This older station handles long-distance T and K trains as well as some D trains.
For those traveling via rail, ticket machines at the newer station feature English menus for G and D trains. Tickets for long-distance T or K services must be purchased at staffed windows; it is recommended to book these in advance, especially during holidays.
The Changzhou Metro system provides local transit within the city. The network includes multiple lines that have been operational since 2019.
Bus and BRT Systems
Changzhou offers a robust bus network, including a specialized Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The BRT serves as an efficient alternative to a subway for inner-city travel:
- BRT System: This system consists of several main lines and branch lines. These buses run on dedicated lanes or roads, stopping at enclosed stations located along major thoroughfares. They are characterized by high frequency and offer access throughout the city.
- Standard Bus Network: A variety of buses serve the region, including routes connecting to nearby cities like Wuxi, Suzhou, and Yixing. Many of these routes begin or end near the main train stations.
Fares for standard buses are ¥1, regardless of distance. The BRT system has a specific fare structure of two yuan.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Metered taxis are available throughout the city for convenient point-to-point travel. These taxis operate on a tiered pricing model, charging a base fee for the first few kilometers followed by a set rate for each additional kilometer traveled.
Walkability and Local Navigation
Many of the city's primary attractions are located within walking distance of the main train station area. For destinations further out, the extensive bus and BRT networks provide reliable connections to outlying spots along the main routes.
