Navigating Changshu as a visitor involves a mix of regional transit connections and local transport options. Because the city is situated in the Yangtze River Delta, it is well-connected to neighboring hubs like Suzhou and Wuxi.
Arrival from Nearby Airports
Depending on your point of entry, there are two primary ways to reach Changshu from nearby airports:
- Wuxi Sunan Shuofang International Airport: This is the closest airport. Visitors can take a direct bus service from this airport to arrive in Changshu.
- Shanghai Airports: For those arriving at major hubs in Shanghai, there are no direct bus services to Changshu. Instead, travelers should take a train from the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (located adjacent to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport) to reach Changshu.
Regional Bus Travel
If you are traveling from nearby Suzhou, coach buses are available from the station located on the west side of the train station. These buses typically take about an hour and can drop you off at one of two locations:
- North Bus Station (北站): A convenient stop for those heading toward specific northern areas.
- South Bus Station (南站): This is the primary hub for visitors. It offers connections to a wider variety of destinations and remains open later in the evening. It is located near the city's well-known garment district.
Local Transportation
Once you have arrived at either bus station, local transport options are available to reach specific landmarks or the downtown area.
- Taxis: Metered taxis are a reliable way to navigate between stations and city centers. They are available in the city with a starting fare of ¥10.
- Local Buses: Several bus lines (including numbers 12, 106, 135, 136, 137, 226, 235, and tourist bus 5) serve the area around the Changshu Railway Station.
Navigating to Key Landmarks
When using a taxi to reach central locations from the bus stations, it is helpful to provide specific landmarks to your driver. To reach the heart of the city, you can ask to be taken to:
- Fangta Jie (方塔街)
- Yushan Hill Park (Yushan Gong Yuan/虞山公园)
