Orientation: a satellite city built around Brasília
Águas Lindas de Goiás sits in central Goiás, just west of Brasília and on the boundary of the Federal District. The city grew up largely as affordable housing for people who work in or around Brasília, and that shapes how transport works here: most movement is by bus, and the most useful connections run toward the Federal District rather than deeper into Goiás. The state capital, Goiânia, is far away and reached by long-distance highway routes, not by a quick local trip.
For a visitor, the practical takeaway is simple: plan around buses and the bus station, expect to use taxis or ride-hailing for local hops, and treat Brasília as the region's transport hub.
Rail, metro and trams
Getting around the city and connecting to the wider region is done by road. Do not count on finding a train station or metro stop in town.
Buses and public transport
Buses are the backbone of movement here. Many residents commute daily by bus to Brasília, and the local network is built around those links. Routes serving the municipality connect it to destinations across the Brasília area, including the Plano Piloto and its central axis, the Estrutural corridor, Guará, Taguatinga, Águas Claras, and the Noroeste and W3 Norte areas, among others. Some routes run through or terminate at Brasília's central bus station (Rodoviária).
- Where to catch local buses: stops are scattered through the central area. Two stops cited near the centre are on Rua Sete and Rua A2, both a short walk from the core. Local city buses also stop near the main bus station.
- Service hours: buses start early in the morning and the last departures are in the evening, so plan evening trips carefully and confirm your return bus in advance.
- Transit-app listings point users to their apps for pricing, so check a local transit app or ask at the bus station ticket office for current fares and any rechargeable card options.
The bus station (Terminal Rodoviário)
The city's bus station is the main hub for longer trips and a useful landmark for visitors. It is in the Jardim da Barragem IV area on Rua 36, a few kilometres from the city centre, and is reached by road via BR-070.
- Ticket office: open from early morning until late evening (06:00–22:00).
- Amenities: free parking, an ATM, free public restrooms, accessibility ramps, and taxis available at the station entrance.
- Not available: there is no car rental at the station.
- Practical tip: arrive at least 30 minutes before your departure to allow time for boarding.
- Safety: the area is described as generally well lit with security measures in place, though as anywhere, keep valuables discreet and stay aware of your surroundings at night.
Taxis and ride-hailing
Taxis are available at the entrance to the bus station, which makes them a convenient option for the final leg of a journey or for reaching the centre with luggage.
Walking
The central area is compact enough that some stops and landmarks are within a few minutes on foot of one another—the stops on Rua Sete and Rua A2, for example, are each a short walk from the core. Walking is reasonable for short local errands, but the city is spread out and infrastructure is described as precarious, so for longer trips or at night, use a bus or taxi rather than relying on foot.
Getting from the airport into the city
Águas Lindas has no airport of its own. The realistic approach is:
- Take a taxi or ride from the airport into Brasília's central bus station (Rodoviária) or another point served by the Águas Lindas routes.
- Connect onto a bus heading to Águas Lindas—several routes link the city to central Brasília and the Estrutural corridor, and some terminate at the Rodoviária.
- Alternatively, arrange a taxi or private transfer for the whole trip, which is simpler with luggage but costs more.
Because service hours end in the evening, avoid arriving late at night if you plan to continue by bus; a taxi or pre-arranged transfer is the safer choice for late arrivals.
Quick practical checklist
- Carry some cash for taxis and small purchases; use the ATM at the bus station if needed.
- Check a local transit app for current fares, routes and timetables before you travel.
- Build your plans around the bus station and the Brasília-bound routes—they are the region's main connections.
- Allow extra time: arrive at the bus station at least 30 minutes before departure.
