Getting around Barueri
Barueri sits in the northwestern part of the São Paulo metropolitan region, and its two main visitor hubs — the Barueri city centre and the Alphaville district — are compact enough to explore on foot. For anything beyond those cores, though, a car is generally the most convenient way of moving from one part of the city to another, since the municipality is spread out and its neighbourhoods are not all easily linked on foot or by a single transit line.
Rail: CPTM Line 8
The city is served by the trains of Line 8 of the CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos), the São Paulo metropolitan railway company. The Barueri city centre contains the Barueri station on this line, which is the practical rail gateway for visitors heading to the centre rather than to Alphaville.
Line 8 connects into São Paulo's metro network, so you can reach Barueri by rail from the city. From the Barra Funda metro station, the trip to Barueri takes around 78 minutes and costs a regular CPTM tariff — a single, inexpensive fare rather than a special tourist ticket. Buy your ticket or recharge your transit card at the station in the usual way; the fare is the standard CPTM one.
Buses and other public transport
Within Barueri, public transport consists of buses operated by Benfica. These are the local services that cover the city itself.
From São Paulo, the Alphaville centre can be reached by metropolitan bus run by EMTU. Several options exist and it is worth checking the EMTU website for current routes and times, but be prepared for a slow journey — they typically take around two hours and cost about 12 reais. Some useful lines depart from metro stations in São Paulo:
- 116 and 818 — from Armênia station
- 378 and 378PR1 — from Paraíso station
- 524 — from Barra Funda station
Note that, with the exception of 818, most of these buses do not have the Alphaville centre as their final destination, so you will need to watch your stop or ask the driver where to get off.
Taxis and ride-hailing
The source material does not describe taxi or ride-hailing services in Barueri in detail. Given that a car is generally the most convenient way of moving between different parts of the city, taxis and app-based rides are a sensible fallback for trips that buses and walking do not cover well — particularly between the centre and Alphaville, or for reaching addresses away from the main hubs. Walkability
Walking works well in the two compact cores: the Alphaville centre and the Barueri centre are both small enough to be explored on foot. Outside those areas, the city is not oriented around pedestrians, and you should plan on a vehicle for cross-city journeys.
Getting in from the airport

Driving is by far the best way to get to Alphaville from São Paulo. Take BR 374 (Rodovia Castelo Branco) and use exits 21 through 23 to access the Alphaville neighbourhood; toll payment is required. For Barueri itself, use exits 26 through 28, which are closest to the city centre.
