Alternatively, a budget-friendly option is the "micro" or mini-bus that waits outside the airport's front doors. These buses depart every 20 minutes and cost Bs. 6.50 (with an additional Bs. 4 surcharge for trips after 10:00 PM). This bus route follows Cristo Redentor Avenue and the First Ring; to reach the main plaza area, you can ask the driver to drop you off at Libertad and Primer Anillo, which is about a seven-block walk from the center.
Public Transit: Micros and Trufis
The city's local public transportation system relies heavily on "micros" (small buses) and "trufis" (shared taxis). The micros are organized by route numbers that correspond to specific paths through the city. For example, routes 17 and 18 serve the first ring, while 72 and 73 travel along the second ring.
