Overview
The Jaipur Metro is a modern rapid transit system serving the city of Jaipur in Rajasthan, India. It provides a fast, reliable, and affordable way to navigate the urban landscape. To ride the metro, you can purchase a single-journey ticket or use a rechargeable smart card at the station. The network
The metro system is currently developing in phases, with the primary operational line being the Pink Line. The network includes:
- Pink Line: This East-West corridor connects Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar via Civil Lines and Chandpole. It is known as the "Pink Line" because it provides access to the heart of the "Pink City."
- Orange Line (Planned): Approved for 2026, this North-South Corridor will eventually span 41 kilometers and 36 stations, connecting Prahaladpura in the south to Todi Mod in the north.

- City Buses: Local routes such as bus #5 (connecting Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, and New Gate) and bus #2 (running from the train station toward City Palace).
- Autorickshaws (Tuk-tuks): Useful for reaching outskirts like Amber Fort or Galtaji.
- Cycle-rickshaws: Best for navigating narrow lanes in the old city.
Tickets & fares
The Jaipur Metro offers several ways to pay for your journey, with prices generally ranging between ₹5 and ₹25 depending on the distance traveled.
- Single-journey tickets: These are issued as paper QR code tickets.
- Smart cards (Travel Cards): These are rechargeable cards available for ₹100 (which includes a ₹50 refundable security deposit and ₹50 initial travel balance). They can be recharged in multiples of ₹50 up to ₹1,000 and remain valid for three years.
- Group tickets: Available for groups of 21 to 100 passengers, offering a 10% discount on the total fare.
- Tourist cards: These are available as an option for visitors.
From the airport
To travel from Jaipur International Airport (JAI) into the city center, you can utilize the following options:
- Taxi: Taxis are a convenient and comfortable way to reach your destination directly from the airport.
- Bus: While specific direct metro links from the airport are part of future phases (Orange Line), standard road transport includes buses and private vehicles.
Etiquette & customs
When riding the Jaipur Metro, please observe the following local customs and rules:
- Reserved Seating: The first coach of every train is reserved for women during peak hours.
- Safety: The system is monitored by security personnel and a network of CCTV cameras; follow all instructions from staff and security officers.
- Communication: In case of an emergency, intercoms are available in every train car to contact the operator.
