Things to Do in Subang Jaya: A Lakeside View of the Klang Valley

Subang Jaya, Malaysia

By the Travel Wiki editorial team

Stand at the edge of the lake in Subang Ria Recreational Park in SS12 and you get the shape of Subang Jaya in one view: water, joggers, and the towers of a city that grew out of a rubber estate called Seafield. The commercial district of SS15 is where the streets fill up after work, and the malls along the Federal Highway side keep the evenings busy.

Subang Jaya suits travellers who are already in the Klang Valley and want a base with easy transport, shopping and food rather than a checklist of monuments. The city is served by two LRT lines, a KTM commuter line and a BRT line, so most of what follows can be reached without a car.

This guide covers the parks, malls, sports venues and industrial-park landmarks that the sources actually name, plus a one-day plan that links them in a sensible order.

Top things to do in Subang Jaya

1. Subang Ria Recreational Park

This is the largest recreation park in Subang Jaya, built around a 30-acre lake in SS12, near Sime Darby Medical Centre. It was upgraded in 2023 with better facilities, and jogging is the main activity here. The park is easily reached by public transport and has ample parking for private vehicles.

Combine it with a look at the rest of SS12, and note that the park is also home to the seafood restaurant Crocodile Farm and the TT Sports Park paintball site.

2. Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Pyramid

These sit together in Bandar Sunway, adjacent to Subang Jaya, and are the best-known destinations in the area. Sunway Lagoon is an amusement and water theme park, and Sunway Pyramid is the shopping mall beside it.

Because they are in Bandar Sunway rather than the Subang Jaya city centre, plan them as one outing rather than trying to fold them into a walk around SS15.

3. SS15 commercial district

SS15 is Subang Jaya's central entertainment and business area, with international food and beverage outlets, cafes, dining restaurants, boutique outlets and banks, surrounded by high-rise offices and serviced residences.

Come in the evening, when the district is at its liveliest, and treat it as a meal-and-wander stop rather than a sight in itself.

4. Subang Parade

One of the main shopping attractions around the Subang Jaya city centre, in SS16. Celebrity Fitness operates inside Subang Parade, so it works as a combined shopping and workout stop.

It pairs naturally with Empire Subang, which is also in SS16.

5. Empire Subang

Another of the city centre's main shopping attractions, in SS16. Fitness First Platinium is located in Empire Subang.

Since Subang Parade and Empire Subang are both in SS16, you can cover both in a single trip.

6. USJ Taipan

USJ Taipan is the main commercial hub of the USJ township and a busy business area. True Fitness is located in USJ 10 Taipan.

Use it as your base for the USJ side of the city, where smaller commercial areas are scattered through the neighbourhoods.

7. The USJ malls

USJ holds a cluster of shopping malls: Da Men, Main Place, One City, The Summit, The 19 USJ City Mall, Giant USJ and Mydin USJ. Da Men and Empire Remix are both located in USJ 1.

Pick one or two rather than attempting all of them; they serve the same practical purpose for a visitor.

8. Tropicana Metropark

This development contains a 9.2-acre central park with a human-made lake using a bio-filtration system to prevent mosquito breeding, a pedestrian promenade and a food-and-beverage strip for alfresco dining.

It sits near the upscale neighbourhoods of USJ Heights and Subang Heights, off the Federal Highway, and there is a direct interchange into it from the highway.

9. Faber-Castell Malaysia Headquarters

At the Faber-Castell facility in Taman Perisdustrian Sime UEP you can see the World's Largest Pencil, a Castell 9000. The address given is 9, Jl. TP2.

It is an industrial-park stop, so pair it with the other Sime UEP Industrial Park sites rather than making a separate journey.

10. Proton Malaysia Headquarters

The Proton Holdings headquarters in Taman Perisdustrian Sime UEP holds the largest Proton showroom in the Klang Valley and can be seen from the KESAS expressway.

Lotus Cars is alongside it in the same industrial park, so the two are best seen together.

11. Lotus Cars

The only Lotus showroom in the Klang Valley, located in Sime UEP Industrial Park alongside the Proton headquarters.

Combine it with the Proton showroom and the Faber-Castell facility for a single Sime UEP Industrial Park circuit.

12. 3K Sports Complex

A community complex in SS13 with an indoor swimming pool, badminton courts, squash courts and other activities. Subang Jaya has more than ten badminton centres and courts in total.

It sits in SS13, the same area as Sportsplanet, so you can plan both around one visit.

13. MPSJ Sports Complex

A community complex in USJ 5 with a football field, a running track and other facilities.

It fits neatly into a USJ day alongside USJ Taipan.

14. Ferro Futsal

The largest indoor soccer facility in the Subang Jaya area, in Taman Perindustrian Subang, with capacity for eight standard regulation-size pitches and one FIFA standard regulation international court.

HTO de futsal is in the same industrial park, so the two can be compared in one trip.

15. Subang Racquet and Golf Club

A club in SS16, in the same part of the city as Subang Parade and Empire Subang.

Note that the other golf clubs named in the sources — Subang National Golf Club, Saujana Golf & Country Club and Glenmarie Golf & Country Club — lie outside Subang Jaya itself, in Kelana Jaya, Saujana Subang and Glenmarie respectively.

If you only have one day

Morning: Start at Subang Ria Recreational Park in SS12, walking the lake and the upgraded park facilities while it is still cool. From there, continue to the Sime UEP Industrial Park for the Faber-Castell Malaysia Headquarters, the Proton Malaysia Headquarters and the Lotus Cars showroom, which sit close together.

Afternoon: Move to SS16 for Subang Parade and Empire Subang, then take a later stop at the 3K Sports Complex in SS13 if you want a swim or a court session. If you would rather shop in USJ, substitute USJ Taipan and one of the USJ malls, such as Da Men or The 19 USJ City Mall.

Evening: Head to SS15 for dinner, since it is the city's central entertainment and business area with cafes, restaurants and boutiques. If you have energy left, finish at Tropicana Metropark for the promenade and the alfresco food-and-beverage strip, or at Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Pyramid in Bandar Sunway.
