Stand at the top of Crane Hill Tower and the Gui River opens out below you, with the arcade streets of Wanxiu District packed tight along the far bank. Wuzhou sits where the Gui and the Xun meet to form the Xi River, and its older quarters are built in the qílóu style — shophouses with covered walkways, mixing Chinese and foreign detailing.
This guide suits travellers who are already in Guangxi and want a city that rewards walking, hill-climbing and eating rather than queueing. The sights cluster in Wanxiu District, so a single day covers the core comfortably.
What follows is a list of the places worth your time, followed by a one-day plan and answers to the questions travellers ask most often.
Top things to do in Wuzhou
1. Arcade Town
Arcade Town, known in Chinese as Qílóuchéng, spreads across 22 streets of arcade-style buildings in Wanxiu District. The buildings blend Chinese and foreign designs and generally date from the late 19th to the early 20th century, with the peak of construction in the 1920s and 1930s, particularly after a fire destroyed much of the old city in 1924. It is free and open all day.
There are several bus stops in the area; the one with the most routes is the Zhongshan Road bus stop, served by routes 2, 7, 13, 16, 28, 46, 48 and 520. Come in the morning and walk north afterwards to Zhongshan Park.
2. White Cloud Mountain
White Cloud Mountain, or Báiyún Shān, is a mountain to the north of the arcade town and east of the Dragon Mother Temple, at 121 Baiyun Road in Chengbei Subdistrict, Wanxiu District. It is free and open from 07:00 to 18:00, and the climb is worth the effort.
Take bus no. 19, 28 or tourist bus 18 and get off at White Cloud Mountain Park. Pair it with the Dragon Mother Temple, which sits just to the west.
3. Dragon Mother Temple
The Dragon Mother Temple, or Lóngmǔ Tài Miào, is at 75 Guilin Road in Wanxiu District, north of the arcade town and west of White Cloud Mountain. It features a colossal statue. Entry is ¥28 and it is open from 09:00 to 17:00.
The closest bus stop to the entrance is the No. 8 High School stop, served by tourist bus 18 and bus nos. 19 and 28. Combine it with White Cloud Mountain in the same outing.
4. Zhongshan Park
Zhongshan Park at 1 Wenhua Road in Wanxiu District is dedicated to Sun Yat-sen, founder of China's first republic. In the centre of the park is the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, completed in 1930. Entry is free.
The park is north of the Arcade Town and south of the Dragon Mother Temple. Park hours are 07:00 to 18:30 and the memorial hall is open 09:00 to 17:00, closed on Mondays — plan around that closure.
5. Wuzhou Museum
Wuzhou Museum is the city's main museum, in Zhushan Park, Wanxiu District. Information is mostly in Chinese, though you will see some English when you reach the exhibition on the Arcade Town. Entry is free.
It is the first building you come to if you take the elevator up. Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday 09:00 to 11:30 and 14:30 to 17:00, Saturday and Sunday 09:00 to 17:00, closed on Mondays.
6. Former British Consulate
In 1897 the British declared the entire hill to be sovereign territory of Great Britain and built this consulate upon it. It was abandoned about 30 years later when a campaign of civil resistance compelled the British to leave. Today the former consulate is a museum, with a stone monument outside commemorating the return of the hill to Chinese sovereignty. Entry is free.
From the Wuzhou Museum, follow the road east past the former site of the Alliance Bible Institute, then enter Hebin Park; you will find the consulate building to your left. Hours are Tuesday to Friday 09:00 to 11:30 and 14:30 to 17:00, Saturday and Sunday 09:00 to 17:00, closed on Mondays.
7. Crane Hill Tower
Crane Hill Tower, or Hè Gǎng Lóu, is a modern reconstruction of a historic tower in Zhushan Park, Wanxiu District, opposite the former British Consulate. The top of the tower has good views of the Gui River. It is free and open from 08:00 to 17:30.
Climb it while you are already on the hill for the museum and the consulate rather than making a separate trip.
8. White Crane Temple
White Crane Temple, or Bái Hè Guān, at 1 Yuanjiang Road in Wanxiu District, is said to be one of the best preserved traditional Taoist temples in Guangxi. It was established in the 8th century AD and has been renovated several times since. Entry is ¥5 and it is open from 08:30 to 17:00.
The temple is near the bottom of the hill and close to the river bank, and you may also enter from Yuanjiang Road. It makes a natural end to a walk down from Zhushan Park.
9. Former Site of Alliance Bible Institute
The Alliance Bible Institute is a Christian school founded by an American missionary at this site in 1899. It continued to operate here until 1949, when it relocated to Hong Kong. Today the building belongs to the Wuzhou Christian Association, which holds regular church services here. Entry is free.
The building is normally closed, but it may be possible to enter when services are being held: 09:00 to 10:30 on Wednesday, 09:00 to 10:30 and 14:30 to 16:00 on Saturday, and 15:30 to 17:00 on Sunday. It is the first historic building you will find after visiting the Wuzhou Museum.
10. Zhu Hill Park
Zhu Hill Park, also known as the Zhu Hill Scenic Area, lies in the central part of the city on the west bank of the Gui River. The Wuzhou Museum is there, along with several notable historic sites. The eastern part of the park is known as Hebin Park.
You can either walk up the hill or take the elevator on Daxue Road. Treat the park as the frame for the museum, the consulate, Crane Hill Tower and the Alliance Bible Institute rather than a separate stop.
11. Guilinggao jelly and Wuzhou honey date
Among the agricultural products of the Wuzhou region, one of the most favoured snacks is Wuzhou honey date. Guilinggao jelly is also described as a Wuzhou delicacy.
Look for both while you are walking the arcade streets, where snacking between sights is the easiest way to eat.
12. Bingquan Soy Milk
Bingquan Soy Milk is welcomed by people in Wuzhou and is on the list of premium choices for breakfast.
Build a morning around it before you start on the arcade town, since the streets are open all day and you lose nothing by starting with breakfast.
13. Wuzhou Rice Noodles, Wuzhou Beer Duck and Sour Bamboo Shoots Fish
Wuzhou's cuisine is known for its unique flavours. Wuzhou Rice Noodles are a local specialty, with smooth noodles complemented by a variety of seasonings. Wuzhou Beer Duck is another iconic dish, where the duck is cooked with beer and spices. Sour Bamboo Shoots Fish combines the sourness of bamboo shoots with the fresh taste of fish.
These dishes are the most direct way to enjoy the local flavour and culture of Wuzhou. Order them across separate meals rather than all at once.
14. Wuzhou Dragon Boat Festival
The Wuzhou Dragon Boat Festival is a major traditional event held every year around the Dragon Boat Festival, featuring dragon boat races that draw visitors and locals to participate or watch. You will experience the festive atmosphere and learn about traditional dragon boat culture.
Time a visit around the festival if the races interest you; otherwise the riverside is still the place to be for the water views.
15. Wuzhou Lantern Festival
The Wuzhou Lantern Festival is held during the Chinese New Year and is one of the grandest events in the city, with lantern displays, folk performances and food stalls.
It is a good way to enjoy the holiday atmosphere with family and friends. Expect the arcade streets to be at their busiest during this period.
If you only have one day

Afternoon. Move on to Zhu Hill Park, taking the elevator on Daxue Road if you prefer not to walk up. See Wuzhou Museum first, then follow the road east to the Former British Consulate and the Former Site of Alliance Bible Institute, and climb Crane Hill Tower for the views over the Gui River.
Evening. Walk down to White Crane Temple before it closes at 17:00, then return to the arcade streets for dinner — Wuzhou Rice Noodles, Wuzhou Beer Duck or Sour Bamboo Shoots Fish — and finish with Guilinggao jelly or Wuzhou honey date.
