Things to Do in Zhuzhou: Zhuzhou Evenings on the Xiang River

Zhuzhou, China

By the Travel Wiki editorial team

Stand on the Xiangjiang River Scenic Spot at dusk, when the lights come on along the water and the riverside path fills with walkers and cyclists, and you have the simplest version of Zhuzhou: a river city that takes its evenings seriously. The Xiang River runs through the middle of it, the streets around Wenyi Road carry murals painted by local artists, and the old wharves on the Yanjiang Road side have turned into places people come to photograph the water.

Zhuzhou suits travellers who are already in Hunan and want a day or two beyond the provincial capital, and anyone interested in Xiang Opera, the Xiangxiu Fire Dragon Dance performed at the Lantern Festival, or the Shennong culture that shapes the city's public spaces. It is a working industrial city with a genuine street life rather than a polished tourist trail.
