Stand on Dingshan North Road in Dingshu Town and the day's subject is already clear: this is pottery country, and the Yixing teapot you have seen on shelves elsewhere began here. The city sits in southern Jiangsu, part of the Yangtze River Delta, and its unglazed stoneware has been its signature since the 16th century, when potters adapted wine ewers into teapots for steeping loose-leaf tea.
Yixing suits travellers who are curious about craft and ceramics, and who are happy to spend a day between a museum and a mountain rather than ticking off a city centre. The two Wikivoyage listings below are the anchors; the surrounding town and countryside are what you build around them.
This guide covers the sights worth your time, how to string them into a single day, and the practical questions that come up before you go.
Top things to do in Yixing
1. Yixing Ceramics Museum
This is the place to start if you want to understand what Yixing is known for. The museum sits at 150 Dingshan North Road in Dingshu Town, the pottery town, and it is the one collection in the city devoted to the ceramics tradition that made Yixing's name. Go early in your trip so the teapots you see later in shops and workshops have some context.

Come for the walking and the scale of the bamboo rather than for a single viewpoint.
Tickets are ¥78, and none are sold after 16:00; the area is open 08:00-16:30. Bus nos. 201, 373, 375 and 801 serve it, as does the Hufu Tourist Bus. Contact numbers are +86 510 87479609 and +86 510 87479616.
3. Longchi Mountain Scenic Area

The area is also known as Longchishan Bicycle Park, so hiring a bike is a reasonable way to cover more ground.
