Where to Stay in Minhang by Metro Line

Minhang, China

By the Travel Wiki editorial team

Minhang is a suburban district of Shanghai, mostly residential, with factories and production facilities mixed in among the housing. It is also where you find Qibao, a tourist attraction in the northern part of the district, and Maqiao, site of the Neolithic Ruins of Maqiao and host of the Shanghai ATP Masters tennis tournament.

For a visitor, Minhang is spread out and organised around its metro lines rather than around a single centre. Line 1, Line 5 and Line 8 serve the southern and central parts, Line 9 and Line 10 run through the north, and Line 17 and the Pujiang Line extend the network further. This guide covers which areas make sense as a base, what each is like, and what kind of accommodation you find at each budget level.

Best areas to stay in Minhang

1. Hongmei Lu area

The Hongmei Lu area is a fairly popular choice because it has a good range of both restaurants and hotels. It is near Hongqiao Airport and is connected via metro Line 10 to both the airport and downtown.

This suits visitors who want easy connections in and out of the city and a choice of places to eat within walking distance of where they sleep.

2. Northern Minhang, toward the French Concession end

There are plenty of hotels in the area, especially toward the north end near the French Concession. The northern part of the district also contains Qibao, a tourist attraction, served by Line 9.

This suits visitors who want to be on the downtown side of the district and close to the sights at Qibao, while still basing themselves in Minhang.

3. Xinzhuang

Xinzhuang is a transport point where Line 1 and Line 5 meet, which makes it a practical base if your plans take you both north toward the city centre and south along Line 5.

It suits visitors who prioritise metro connections over being close to a particular attraction.

4. Pujiang Town

Pujiang Town sits on Line 8 and is where the Aerospace Museum is being constructed. The Pujiang Line also links Shendu Highway on Line 8 onward through Sanlu Highway, Minrui Road, Puhang Road, Dongchengyi Road and Huizhen Road.

It suits visitors whose plans focus on the eastern side of the district and who want to be on the Line 8 corridor.

5. Maqiao

Maqiao is the site of the Neolithic Ruins of Maqiao and of Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. It is a town within the district rather than a dense visitor quarter.

It suits visitors coming specifically for the ruins or the arena, who are content to be based away from the main hotel clusters.
