O Mon
Introduction
Ô Môn is an urban district of Cần Thơ, in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. It sits within the delta landscape that defines this part of the country, and the district covers a modest area of roughly 126 square kilometres.
What is clear is that it belongs administratively to Cần Thơ and forms part of the wider Mekong Delta, the region to use as your frame when planning a visit.
Getting around
Ô Môn is a district of Cần Thơ, so plan your movements as part of the wider Cần Thơ transport network rather than as a standalone town. Everything runs by road: there is no rail, metro or tram here, and if you arrive in the region by train you will still finish the last leg to Cần Thơ and Ô Môn by road. Buses and coaches connect the district with other Delta towns and with Cần Thơ's central bus station, which is the hub for longer-distance coaches. On the Ô Môn–Long Xuyên route, for example, more than one company runs services throughout the day, from early morning to late night, using standard seaters, sleeper buses and limousine vans with reclining seats, screens, a mini fridge and charging points. Book online and keep the e-ticket on your phone; payment can be by card, internet banking, e-wallet or cash. Ask when booking whether your limousine service includes free pick-up or drop-off in the Ô Môn–Cần Thơ area.
For local trips and for reaching bus stations or the airport, taxis and ride-hailing apps are the most flexible option and spare you negotiating fares in a language you may not share. Walking suits short distances within a single neighbourhood only — the district is spread out and low-density, not built around pedestrian tourism, so combine walking with a car-based option for anything longer. From Cần Thơ's airport, the standard approach is a taxi, ride-hailing car or pre-arranged transfer, arranged in advance or picked up on arrival; if you are heading straight onward, ask for Bến xe trung tâm Cần Thơ. Allow extra time for road travel, and keep the older name "Ô Môn" handy with drivers, since the 2025 reorganisation means some signage and addresses may differ.
Three days in O Mon
Day one: Start in Môn and get your bearings on foot, since walking is the easiest way to settle into the pace of the town. From Cần Thơ, buses run into the Delta and onward, so allow time for the ride rather than rushing the morning. In the afternoon, follow the waterfront and watch the river traffic on the Mekong Delta.
- Walk through Môn in the morning
- Take a bus from Cần Thơ into the Delta
- Spend the afternoon by the river
Day two: Head to Long Xuyên and give the day over to the streets and the market. Book a room in the centre so you can walk out in the evening without arranging transport. Ask locally about the best route back toward Cần Thơ, as schedules shift with the season.
- Travel to Long Xuyên
- Explore the market and surrounding streets
- Ask about return transport to Cần Thơ
Day three: Return to Cần Thơ and use the morning to see the city before you leave. Buses connect onward through the Delta, so check times early and allow a margin. Finish with a slow walk along the river and a meal of Delta specialties before departing.
- Morning in Cần Thơ
- Confirm onward bus times
- Walk the riverfront before departure
