Go Vap

Introduction

Gò Vấp is a former urban district of Ho Chi Minh City, and since mid-2025 it has no longer existed as a separate administrative unit. What was once its own district is now folded into the wider city, so treat it as a neighbourhood of Ho Chi Minh City rather than a destination in its own right.

Getting around

Buses are your main public transport option for reaching and moving through Go Vap. Local routes passing through the district include 146, 36, 03 and 59, while the Go Vap District Bus Station at 123 Nguyen Thai Son Street is served by lines 08, 19, 27, 93 and 104 and has a ticket office, an ATM, public toilets, basic ramps, street parking for motorbikes and cars, and taxis at designated stands, with food stalls and small restaurants nearby. Buy tickets at the station office or on board, keep small change handy, and arrive at least 30 minutes before a scheduled departure. From District 1 the distance is just over 9 km, roughly 30 minutes by a route running via Le Loi Street, Cong Truong Lam Son, Hai Ba Trung Street, Kieu Bridge, Phan Dinh Phung Street, Nguyen Kiem Street, Nguyen Thai Son Street, Nguyen Oanh Street and Phan Van Tri Street. No metro or tram network serves the district, so treat the railway as a connection for intercity travel rather than a way to hop between neighbourhoods.

Taxis and ride-hailing apps, including the electric operator Green SM, cover the district and are the simplest choice for door-to-door trips, airport runs and late-night travel; taxis wait at designated stands at the bus station. Tan Son Nhat International Airport sits right against Go Vap's western edge along the boundary with Tan Binh District, so you can reach the district by taxi, app-based car or local bus. Walking works best for exploring a single area rather than crossing the district: Gia Dinh Park on the border with Phu Nhuan, Go Vap Cultural Park, Hoa Binh Water Music Square and the day-and-night Hanh Thong Tay Market are all pleasant on foot, but the arterial roads between them are busy, so plan on a bus, taxi or ride-hailing app for longer links.

Three days in Go Vap

Day one: Start by getting your bearings along Nguyen Thai Son Street, one of the main arteries through Go Vap, and use the local buses or a taxi to reach the area from central Ho Chi Minh City. Once settled, walk the streets around Hanh Thong Tay Market to see everyday local commerce, then head to Go Vap Cultural Park for an unhurried afternoon. In the evening, make your way toward Hoa Binh Water Music Square for the water music display.

Day two: Take a bus or taxi out toward Tan Son Nhat International Airport in neighbouring Tan Binh District if your plans require it, or simply explore the residential streets that connect Go Vap with Phu Nhuan. Follow Nguyen Kiem Street, Nguyen Oanh Street and Phan Van Tri Street to see how the districts run into one another, pausing at an ATM along the way. For a greener break, Gia Dinh Park offers space to walk and sit.

Day three: Use the Go Vap District Bus Station for onward travel, or arrange a taxi through Green SM if you prefer door-to-door. If you are heading back into the centre, routes via Kieu Bridge, Phan Dinh Phung Street, Hai Ba Trung Street and Le Loi Street will bring you toward Cong Truong Lam Son. Allow time for a last walk around the neighbourhood before you leave.
