Yen Vinh
Getting around
Yen Vinh is compact, so getting around is mostly a matter of road transport: local buses, taxis, and the buses that run to and from the main station. In the centre, short walks will likely cover most of your needs, but confirm local conditions on arrival. For anything longer, taxis are the simplest option.
Vinh Yen Bus Station, on Đường Mê Linh in the Liên Bảo ward, is the town's key transport hub and your reference point for intercity travel. It sits a couple of kilometres from the centre — the source gives slightly inconsistent figures, so treat it as a short taxi or local-bus ride rather than a walk you can count on, especially with luggage. Taxis are available at the station entrance, and local city buses stop nearby, so you can combine a long-distance arrival with a local bus into town. Long-distance routes include Vĩnh Yên–Hanoi and Sa Pa–Vĩnh Yên. Buy tickets in person at the counter during opening hours and arrive at least 30 minutes before departure. The station has free parking for cars and motorbikes, basic toilets, small food vendors and shops nearby, and basic wheelchair access; there are no showers and no car rental. The area is described as generally well-lit and secure for solo travellers.
For train travel, check with local operators or your accommodation rather than relying on assumptions. If you arrive by air, plan to reach Yen Vinh by road, most likely via Hanoi, then continue to Vinh Yen Bus Station; confirm the best onward connection with your accommodation or at the ticket office before you travel. Published information on ride-hailing and local bus routes is limited, so ask your accommodation.
Three days in Yen Vinh
Day one: Start in Yen Vinh and get your bearings in the central wards of Liên Bảo and Mê Linh, where you can wander on foot and pick up the feel of the city. If you arrive by bus, Vinh Yen Bus Station is the natural starting point, and taxis are on hand to take you to your neighbourhood. For an easy first evening, eat locally and rest up, since the city is a convenient base between Hanoi and Sa Pa.
Day two: Use Yen Vinh as your base for a fuller day out, returning to the city in the evening. Long walks through the wards let you see daily life, and taxis make it simple to move between Liên Bảo, Mê Linh and the bus station. Buy what you need for the next leg of your trip while you are here.
Day three: Spend a relaxed final morning in the city before you move on. If you are heading onward to Hanoi or Sa Pa, taxis can take you to Vinh Yen Bus Station in good time. Published timetables at the station are worth checking before you set out.
