Los Puertos de Altagracia
Introduction
Los Puertos de Altagracia is the capital of the Miranda Municipality, on the eastern shore of Lake Maracaibo in Zulia, Venezuela. Founded in 1529, it is one of the older settlements on the lake's coast.
Getting around
Los Puertos de Altagracia is a small lakeside town, so getting around locally means walking. The centre is compact enough that on foot is the natural way to cover errands, meals and short trips, and there is no rail, metro or tram network serving the town to fall back on. For anything beyond the town, you will need a vehicle or a taxi.
There is no public transport aimed at visitors and no direct bus from Maracaibo Airport (MAR) to the town, so taxis do the heavy lifting. A direct taxi from the airport is the simplest option and takes roughly under an hour, though it is the most expensive; agree the fare in advance. Without a car, the recommended approach is the Metro de Maracaibo (Metromara) bus from the airport to Alto de la Vanega, then a taxi for the rest of the trip, with an alternative bus-and-taxi route via Libertador — both take a little over an hour in total. The bus leg runs on a limited schedule, so check timings before you commit. If you drive yourself, the road route is straightforward and takes about the same time. Confirm fares with the operator before setting off, and keep the taxi operators' numbers on hand.
Three days in Los Puertos de Altagracia
Day one: Start in Los Puertos itself, the town around which the Altagracia area of the Miranda Municipality is organised, and get your bearings on foot before heading out to the shore of Lake Maracaibo. In the evening, settle into the easy pace of Zulia and plan the rest of your stay around the lake.

Day two: Give the day to Altagracia and the surrounding Miranda Municipality, taking time to understand how the town and its lakefront relate to one another. Keep the schedule loose and let the heat of the day set your pace.

Day three: Plan your onward travel. If you are flying, Maracaibo Airport (MAR) is the regional gateway, and Maracaibo can be reached by Metro or Metromara, with stops including Alto Vanega and Libertador. Confirm your connections before you set out, and leave time to return to Los Puertos.
