Tariba
Introduction
Táriba is a town in Táchira, Venezuela, and serves as the capital of the Cárdenas Municipality. It sits on the outskirts of San Cristóbal, so you can use the larger city as a base while staying in a smaller, distinct place.
The town was founded in 1602, though the source notes that it was originally founded by an ancient indigenous people before Alonso Pérez de Tolosa arrived in 1547. That layered history gives you a sense of how long the settlement has existed on the edge of San Cristóbal.
Three days in Tariba
Day one: Start in Táriba, the capital of Cárdenas Municipality in Táchira, and get your bearings in the town centre before heading out towards San Cristóbal, the larger city nearby. Use the first day to settle into the pace of the region and to see how Táriba sits within Táchira.
Day two: Give the day to Táriba itself and to the story of Alonso Pérez de Tolosa, whose name is tied to the town's founding. Wander the streets at an easy pace and take in the everyday life of the place rather than rushing between sights.
Day three: Head back towards San Cristóbal for a change of scene, then return to Táriba to close out your stay. Keep the final day loose, leaving room for whatever in Táchira you want to revisit before you move on.
