Denton

Introduction

Denton is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Denton County. It sits within the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, so you can expect to reach it as part of a wider North Texas trip rather than as a standalone destination.

Getting around

DCTA is the local transit agency for Denton County, running both bus and rail service and connecting riders to schools, shopping, medical centers, Lewisville, and the DART system. The A-train, DCTA's commuter rail line, is the key link between Denton and the wider Dallas–Fort Worth region, carrying you to Lewisville and onward to DART, which serves Dallas and a dozen surrounding cities. Alongside fixed-route buses, DCTA offers GoZone, an on-demand rideshare service powered by Via that covers trips within designated zones in Denton County and sometimes between them — a flexible choice when a bus route doesn't fit your trip. For rural parts of the county, SPAN Transit serves older persons, people with disabilities, veterans, and the general public.

Three days in Denton

Day one: Start in Downtown Denton, the historic centre of Denton County, and use it as your base for getting oriented in North Texas. From here you can connect onward to Dallas or Fort Worth, or stay local and explore the downtown streets on foot. If you arrive without a car, look into the DCTA and its GoZone on-demand service, or use SPAN Transit; ride-hailing through Uber and Lyft is also an option for short hops.

Day two: Give the day to Downtown Denton itself, wandering the historic square and the surrounding blocks rather than rushing between sights. Keep the car parked if you have one, since the downtown area is compact and walkable. For a change of scene, Lewisville is within reach via DCTA, and the DART network opens up connections further afield.

Day three: Plan your onward travel. If you are heading to Dallas or Fort Worth, compare the DCTA and DART services with driving; rental desks from Budget, Avis and Enterprise, or a car from Enterprise, give you flexibility, while SuperShuttle Express and Roadrunner Charters cover group and shuttle transfers. Return to Downtown Denton in the evening to close out your three days.
