Davie
Introduction
Davie is a town in Broward County, Florida, part of the Miami metropolitan area and set roughly 24 miles north of Miami. It is a place where Western character is part of everyday life: horseback riding is common here, and many of the town's historic buildings include ranches and other Western establishments.
Come expecting a Florida town with a distinctly equestrian, Old West streak rather than a beach resort, and you'll have a clear sense of what makes Davie its own stop within the wider Miami area.
Getting there
Davie sits within minutes of Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, making it an easy arrival point if you're flying in. By road, the town is directly accessible from I-95, 595, the Florida Turnpike, and I-75, so you can reach it by car from several directions.
Getting around
How easily you get around Davie depends heavily on which part of town you are in. The town stretches a long way east to west, and transit coverage is not uniform: eastern Davie, especially the corridor around University Drive and the university campuses, is far better served than the western side, which is largely car-dependent and has no community shuttle coverage. Walking is realistic mainly in the denser eastern part of town, along the University Drive and Hiatus Road corridor, where bus routes, the SFEC shuttle and the free Green Route converge. Outside that area, and especially west of Hiatus Road and Nob Hill Road, the town is spread out and you should not count on getting around on foot.
- Broward County Transit (BCT) is the county's fixed-route bus system and the main public transport option within Davie. Routes running inside the town's boundaries include Route 2 along University Drive, linking Davie toward Hollywood and northern Broward; Route 9 east–west along the Griffin Road corridor; Route 12 along Davie Road, connecting to the Tri-Rail station area; and Route 16 along Pine Island Road, connecting toward Plantation. The University Breeze express service links the university corridor to key transit hubs.
- Davie's own small community buses, the Davie Blue and Green routes, act as local circulators. The Green Route is free and serves eastern Davie neighborhoods, useful for errands, medical appointments and connecting to BCT routes.
- The free SFEC Campus Shuttle, also known as the Tri-Rail Connector, runs Monday through Friday and links the South Florida Education Center campuses — Broward College, Nova Southeastern University and McFatter Technical College — to the Fort Lauderdale Airport Tri-Rail station, working both as a campus circulator and as a feeder to the rail line.
- Davie itself has no Tri-Rail station, so you will need to reach a nearby one. The closest options are Sheridan Street Station, south of eastern Davie via Sheridan Street or I-95, and Fort Lauderdale Airport Station, reachable from the university corridor via the free SFEC Campus Shuttle. Tri-Rail is a practical choice for trips to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, and connects to downtown Miami via a Metrorail transfer.
- Private car services are available in the area, including limousine and airport transfer companies serving the Tri-County area with sedans, SUVs, vans and stretch limousines, and infant and child booster seats on request. For everyday trips, ride-hailing apps are a common fallback, particularly in western Davie where bus service is thin.
- By car, Davie is directly accessible from I-95, I-595, the Florida Turnpike and I-75. I-595 runs east–west through the center of town, I-75 runs north–south along the western edge, and the Florida Turnpike cuts north–south through the middle. The Sawgrass Expressway is reachable via I-75 or I-595. Note that the I-595 Express Lanes are reversible and tolled.
