Kasangati
Introduction
Kasangati is a town in Nangabo sub-county, within the Kyadondo East constituency of Wakiso District, in Uganda's Central Region. It also serves as the headquarters for Kyadondo County, which gives the town a modest administrative role alongside its everyday life.
One of the things that stands out about Kasangati is its mix of people: the town is multi-lingual and acts as a melting pot of diverse cultures, so you can expect to hear several languages and encounter a range of cultural influences as you move around.
Getting around
Kasangati sits along the Kampala–Gayaza Road, which meets the Kyaliwajjala–Kira–Kasangati–Matugga Road in the middle of town, and its layout is oriented around that main road and its market and civic centre. There is no rail, metro, or tram service here or anywhere in the wider Greater Kampala area; proposals for stage buses, Light Rail Transit, and Bus Rapid Transit remain plans rather than services you can use. In practice you get around by minibus taxi, bus, boda boda, conventional taxi, or private car. Use Kasangati Central Market, the Kasangati Town Council offices, Kasangati Health Center IV, and Saza Ground as landmarks when directing a driver.
The minibus taxi is the workhorse of public transport, running frequently and informally with no designated routes or stops and no fare controls, so you find one heading your way and pay the going fare. Stage buses also serve the region, including the Kasangati–Kampala corridor, but with no clear timetables, no designated routes, and services that can be infrequent. For the run into Kampala, a direct minibus operates from Kasangati Stage to Welfa Petroleum, departing every few minutes through the day and taking well under an hour in normal conditions — the recommended option if you have no car. Conventional taxis are quicker but cost considerably more, and booking a car and driver ahead with a named operator is the simplest way to arrange one. Boda bodas are fast for short distances and beating traffic, but they are the most exposed option, so agree the fare before setting off and insist on a helmet. Walking works well within the town centre, between the market, the council offices, the health centre, and nearby shops and eating places, but beyond the core the town spreads out along its main roads, which are shared with minibuses, buses, boda bodas, and private cars, and pedestrian infrastructure is limited — for anything beyond a short stroll, plan on taking a vehicle. Carry cash in small notes, since fares are paid on board or on arrival and there are no integrated tickets, travelcards, or season passes; ask at Kasangati Stage or your hotel which vehicle is going your way, and build in extra time toward Kampala during commuting hours.
Three days in Kasangati
Day one: Start in Kasangati itself, in Wakiso District in Uganda's Central Region. Use Kasangati Central Market as your orientation point, then walk the town centre around Kasangati Town Council and Kasangati Health Center IV. Kasangati Stage is where the town's transport life gathers, so pass through it to get a feel for how people come and go. For a quieter afternoon, head to Saza Ground. Boda is the practical way to cover short hops, and walking works well within the centre.

Day two: Follow Gayaza Road out towards Nangabo and Kyadondo East, both within Kyadondo County. The road itself is the spine of the day, linking Kasangati to the wider Kyadondo area. Carry on to Kyaliwajjala and Kira if you want a longer run through Greater Kampala's eastern edge. Conventional transport and Boda both serve these stretches.

Day three: Take Matugga Road for a different direction out of town, then loop back towards Kampala, which sits close by and shapes much of Kasangati's daily rhythm. Light Rail Transit and Bus Rapid Transit are part of the wider transport picture for the Greater Kampala area, alongside the Stage and Boda you have already used. If time allows, return to Kasangati Central Market or Welfa Petroleum as a final landmark before you move on.
