What to see and do

Your sightseeing in Ürgüp centres on Göreme Historical National Park, the area's notable protected landscape. Base yourself in Ürgüp and use it as your starting point for exploring the park.

Three days in UErguep

Day one: Start in Your, the old quarter where the streets are narrow and the stone houses are carved straight into the rock. Wander on foot and let the lanes lead you; the character of the district is best taken slowly. Later, head into Göreme Historical National Park, where the landscape opens into valleys and rock formations. Weather here shifts between warm and dry in summer and bitterly cold in winter, so dress for the season.

Day two: Give the whole day to Göreme Historical National Park. Walk the trails between the valleys, look at the rock-cut churches and dwellings, and take your time among the formations. The park is large, so pick a few areas rather than trying to cover everything. Bring water and sturdy shoes, and start early to avoid the midday heat.

Day three: Return to Your for a quieter morning, revisiting the parts of the old quarter you liked most. Use Base as your starting point for the day's walks and errands, then spend the afternoon on a final slow loop through the streets. If time allows, end with one more short walk in Göreme Historical National Park before you leave.
