Konak
Introduction
Konak sits at the geographic heart of İzmir, stretching for over eleven kilometres along the southern shore of the Gulf of İzmir. It has long served as the city's administrative and economic core, and it remains the most densely populated of İzmir's districts. Its central position puts you within reach of Bornova to the east, Balçova to the west, and Buca and Karabağlar to the south.
This is a working hub rather than a resort: industry, trade, commerce and services drive the district, and the road, rail, subway and ferry connections make it easy to move onward to the rest of İzmir and beyond. Come here for the pulse of the city and for the transport links that radiate from it.
Three days in Konak
Day one: Start in Konak itself, where the city's central character is easiest to read on foot. From there the Gulf is always nearby, and you can shape the day around it rather than against it. It rewards a slow first look before you range further out.
Day two: Head to Bornova for a different feel from the centre, then continue to Balçova if you want to spend the afternoon away from the built-up core. Both sit within easy reach of Konak, so you can return in the evening without rearranging your day.
Day three: Give the southern districts their own time. Buca and Karabağlar each have a character distinct from Konak and from each other, and pairing them makes a natural final loop. Come back toward the Gulf to close the trip.
