Sultangazi

Introduction

Sultangazi is a district of Istanbul Province, Turkey, sitting on the city's European side. It is bordered by Esenler and Başakşehir to the west, Gaziosmanpaşa to the south, and Eyüpsultan to the north and east, with the TEM highway forming one edge of the district.

This is a residential part of the city rather than a sightseeing destination, so come expecting everyday Istanbul neighbourhood life instead of monuments. Its position within the wider metropolitan area makes it a straightforward base for reaching the surrounding districts, whether you are heading toward Eyüpsultan and Gaziosmanpaşa or out along the TEM corridor.

Three days in Sultangazi

Day one: Start by getting your bearings in Sultangazi itself, a district of Istanbul Province on the European side of Turkey. It sits among Esenler, Başakşehir, Gaziosmanpaşa and Eyüpsultan, and the TEM motorway runs through it, so it is easy to reach from elsewhere in Istanbul. Use the first day to wander and see how the district is laid out.

Day two: Look at Sultangazi in relation to its neighbours. Esenler, Başakşehir, Gaziosmanpaşa and Eyüpsultan all border it, and each has its own character within Istanbul Province. The TEM gives you a direct route between them, so you can spend the day moving across this part of European Istanbul and comparing one district with the next.

Day three: Return to Sultangazi and fill in whatever you missed. It is one of the districts that make up Istanbul, and its position among Esenler, Başakşehir, Gaziosmanpaşa and Eyüpsultan, with the TEM cutting through, makes it a practical base for a final day in this part of Turkey.
