Merkezefendi
Introduction
Merkezefendi is a district of Denizli Province in Turkey, formed during the 2013 local government reorganisation from part of the former central district of Denizli. The remainder of that former central district went to the neighbouring Pamukkale District, so the two together make up the urban core of Denizli.
The district takes its name from the 16th-century Sufi Merkez Efendi, and it covers an area of 336 square kilometres.
Three days in Merkezefendi
Day one: Start in Merkezefendi, the central district of Denizli Province in Turkey. Get your bearings in Denizli itself, then use the day to settle into the rhythm of the city before venturing further out.
Day two: Head to Pamukkale District, the neighbouring district that gives the wider area its name. Spend your time exploring what the district holds, and return to Merkezefendi in the evening.
Day three: Turn to the city's spiritual heritage. Merkezefendi takes its name from Sufi Merkez Efendi, and the district is your base for reflecting on that connection. Round off your three days back in Denizli before you leave.
