Watthana
Introduction
Watthana, also known as Vadhana, is one of the districts of Bangkok, Thailand. It sits among the neighbouring districts of Ratchathewi, Huai Khwang, Suan Luang, Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, and Pathum Wan, placing you within the wider fabric of the capital.
Three days in Watthana
Day one: Start by getting your bearings in Watthana itself, the district also spelled Vadhana, which sits within the wider sprawl of Bangkok, Thailand. It is one of the city's central neighbourhoods, so you can spend your first day simply walking its sois and getting a feel for how it fits between its neighbours. When you want to branch out, Ratchathewi, Huai Khwang, Suan Luang, Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei and Pathum Wan are all within reach, so you can drift from Watthana into Pathum Wan or Khlong Toei without committing to a long journey.
- Watthana (Vadhana) — your base district
- Pathum Wan and Khlong Toei — neighbouring districts to the west and south
- Ratchathewi and Huai Khwang — neighbouring districts to the north
- Suan Luang and Phra Khanong — neighbouring districts to the east
Day two: Use Watthana as your anchor and give the day to the neighbouring districts on one side. Head into Pathum Wan or Khlong Toei, then loop back through Watthana in the evening. Because these districts sit close together inside Bangkok, you can move between them without crossing the whole city, and you can compare the character of each without needing a fixed plan.
Day three: Turn the other way and explore the districts on the opposite side of Watthana — Ratchathewi and Huai Khwang to the north, or Suan Luang and Phra Khanong to the east. Keep the pace loose and let Watthana be where you begin and end each stretch. By the end of three days you will have seen Watthana in the context of the districts around it rather than as an isolated stop.
