Thung Khru

Introduction

Thung Khru is one of Bangkok's districts, sitting in the southern part of the city. It borders Rat Burana, Bang Khun Thian and Chom Thong within Bangkok, and across the provincial line it meets Phra Pradaeng and Phra Samut Chedi in Samut Prakan province.

That position on the capital's southern edge makes it a place you pass through between Bangkok and Samut Prakan rather than a district with sights of its own described here. Plan your visit around the neighbouring areas, and treat Thung Khru as a point on the map between them.

Three days in Thung Khru

Day one: Start in Thung Khru itself, getting your bearings in this district on the Thonburi side of Bangkok. It sits alongside Rat Burana, Bang Khun Thian and Chom Thong, so you can spend the day moving between these neighbouring districts and seeing how the city's southern edge shifts from one to the next.

Day two: Cross toward the river and Phra Pradaeng, then continue to Phra Samut Chedi and Samut Prakan. Plan your route so you can compare the character of each stop rather than rushing through them.

Day three: Use the day to fill in what you missed, whether that means returning to Thung Khru or revisiting Rat Burana, Bang Khun Thian or Chom Thong. That gives you a final look at the area before you leave.
