Krasnogvargeisky
Getting around
Krasnogvargeisky sits roughly 13 km from central Saint Petersburg, close enough to reach quickly by rail or road but far enough that walking the whole way is a serious undertaking rather than a casual stroll. Plan on using the city's public transport network, with taxis as a convenient fallback. The metro is the natural way to cover the first leg of a cross-city journey, and trams fill in surface-level gaps the metro does not reach; both are part of the same system, so a single stored-value card works across modes. The sensible pattern is to ride the metro or a tram to the relevant railway terminal or bus corridor, then switch to the suburban train or bus that continues into the district.
Suburban rail is the recommended way in: Severo-Zapadnaya PPK runs trains from Finlyandsky Railway Terminal (Finland Station) to Rzhevka station, departing hourly and daily, with a journey of about 19 minutes. Rolling stock includes ordinary commuter electric trains and the more modern "Lastochka" units, and tickets can be bought through Russian Railways (eng.rzd.ru) or the operator's site, ppk-piter.ru. As a direct alternative, bus line 37 runs from Finlyandsky Railway Terminal to Шоссе Революции, 88 (Revolutsii Highway, 88), roughly every 20 minutes and taking about 37 minutes — slower than the train. Fares on the bus are lower with a Podorozhnik card, the stored-value card used across Saint Petersburg's public transport, than when tapping a bank card, so the card pays for itself quickly if you use surface transport more than once or twice. Taxis and ride-hailing are straightforward and inexpensive for this distance, with Citymobil, Maxim, and Yandex Taxi all operating in the city; driving yourself is possible but a taxi or ride-hail removes the need to deal with parking, traffic, and navigation. Walking is technically possible but impractical — treat it as a way to cover the last stretch from a station or bus stop to your destination, not as a way to travel between the city and the district. From Pulkovo Airport, the standard approach is to reach the city centre first, then continue by rail or bus; take a taxi or ride-hail into the city and head to Finlyandsky Railway Terminal for the train to Rzhevka or bus line 37, or take a taxi the whole way for door-to-door convenience at a higher cost.
Three days in Krasnogvargeisky
Day one: Base yourself in Krasnogvargeisky, a district of Saint Petersburg, and use the city's transport network to get your bearings. From Pulkovo Airport, plan your onward journey by taxi — Citymobil, Maxim and Yandex Taxi all operate here — or by rail, since the Finlyandsky Railway Terminal, also known as Finland Station, connects this part of the city to the wider region. Suburban trains such as the Lastochka, run by Russian Railways, serve stops including Rzhevka, and the Zapadnaya PPK and Severo stations sit on the same network. Fares can be paid with the Podorozhnik card, which keeps things simple as you move between the centre and the district.
- Arrive via Pulkovo Airport and choose a taxi or the rail network into the city.
- Use the Finlyandsky Railway Terminal (Finland Station) as your rail anchor.
- Pick up a Podorozhnik card for fares on suburban services.
Day two: Spend the day exploring Krasnogvargeisky itself, walking its streets and getting a feel for how the district sits within Saint Petersburg. The Revolutsii Highway is one of the main routes through the area, and the suburban rail stops at Rzhevka and the Severo and Zapadnaya PPK stations make it easy to move around without a car. If you want to head further out, the Lastochka and other Russian Railways services give you options, and taxis from Citymobil, Maxim or Yandex Taxi are on hand when you would rather ride than walk.
- Walk the district and follow the Revolutsii Highway.
- Use Rzhevka, Severo or Zapadnaya PPK for suburban connections.
- Fall back on a taxi if the weather turns or you are short on time.
Day three: Use your last day to connect Krasnogvargeisky with the rest of Saint Petersburg. The Finlyandsky Railway Terminal and the suburban network make it straightforward to reach other parts of the city and the surrounding area, whether you take a Lastochka or another Russian Railways service. Keep your Podorozhnik card topped up for fares, and plan your return to Pulkovo Airport in advance, allowing time for a taxi or a rail connection. Walking remains the best way to fill the gaps between stations and see the district at your own pace.
- Link the district to central Saint Petersburg via Finland Station.
- Rely on the Podorozhnik card for fares across the network.
- Leave buffer time for the trip back to Pulkovo Airport.
