Getting around

Brateyevo sits well outside the historic centre, so plan on using Moscow's public transport rather than walking from the tourist core. The metro is the backbone of any trip here: Line 2 (the Zamoskvoretskaya line) runs directly from Teatralnaya in the centre to Alma-Atinskaya, the terminus serving the district, with frequent trains throughout the day. Because Alma-Atinskaya is the end of the line, you don't need to worry about overshooting your stop. Shipilovskaya is the district's other metro station, useful if your destination lies closer to it.

Buses are the main surface option and the cheapest. Bus м86 runs directly from Metro Dobryninskaya to Metro Shipilovskaya with frequent weekday service, while bus е85 connects Metro Dobryninskaya to Metro Kashirskaya, where you can transfer to bus с838 onward to Paromnaya Ulitsa in the Brateyevo area. Buses take longer than the metro, so treat them as good value rather than quick. Taxis and ride-hailing apps — Yandex Taxi, Citymobil and Maxim all serve the area — are the fastest way from the centre, handy with luggage or late at night. Payment is consistent across modes: a Troika card, a contactless bank card or a paper "Edinyi" ticket works on both the metro and buses, so you don't need separate tickets for each leg. Walking is fine for short local trips between a station, a stop and your accommodation, but distances are too great to explore the district on foot from the centre. If you're arriving by air, reach central Moscow first via the airport's rail or road connections, then continue by metro, bus or taxi.

Three days in Brateyevo

Day one: Start by getting your bearings in Brateyevo itself, a residential district in Moscow on the Zamoskvoretskaya Line. Ride the metro to Alma-Atinskaya or Shipilovskaya to reach the area, and pay for your journeys with a Troika or Edinyi card. Spend the afternoon walking the neighbourhood streets and along Paromnaya Ulitsa, then use buses or taxis such as Yandex Taxi, Citymobil or Maxim to move on when you are ready.

Day two: Head into central Moscow on the Zamoskvoretskaya Line, changing at Teatralnaya for the city's central sights. Because Alma-Atinskaya and Shipilovskaya sit on the same line, the ride is straightforward. Use the metro to link the centre with the quieter streets of Brateyevo in the evening.

Day three: Take the line north to Metro Dobryninskaya, Metro Kashirskaya or Metro Shipilovskaya depending on where you want to finish. If you are carrying luggage or travelling late, taxis through Yandex Taxi, Citymobil or Maxim are an option, and buses cover the local routes around Brateyevo. Keep your Troika or Edinyi card topped up for the day's journeys.
