Akademicheskoe
Getting around
Akademicheskoe is a district of Saint Petersburg rather than a separate town, so you get around it using the city's wider transport network. The metro station that serves the area is Akademicheskaya, and the metro is the anchor of the system and the most straightforward way to reach it. Many journeys involve a change of line: from Pulkovo Airport you take the metro from Moskovskaya, change at Tekhnologichesky Institut, and continue to Akademicheskaya. Arriving by high-speed train from Moscow at Moskovsky Railway Terminal, you connect onward via Ploshchad Vosstaniya; Finlyandsky Railway Terminal is another arrival point for rail services from Moscow. Long-distance buses from Moscow arrive at Saint Petersburg Bus Terminal, and reaching the district from there involves transfers via metro stations such as Obvodny Kanal and Ploshchad Vosstaniya.
Buses and the tram network complement the metro for surface-level travel and for places that sit away from metro stations, though if you are unfamiliar with the city the metro is simpler to plan around. Sort out your metro fare or travel card on arrival and confirm current ticket types at station kiosks or official transport points, since surface transport is generally ticketed separately or through the city's own fare system. Taxis and ride-hailing are a convenient fallback for door-to-door trips and for the final leg with luggage; agree on the fare or use a metered or app-based service. Once in the district, walking covers short local trips and the last stretch between the station and your destination, but for longer cross-city journeys the metro or surface transport will usually be more practical.
Three days in Akademicheskoe
Day one: Arrive at Pulkovo Airport and take a bus or taxi into Akademicheskoe, a residential district south of the city centre. Settle in and get your bearings on the local streets, then ride the metro from Akademicheskaya into Saint Petersburg for a first look at the centre. In the evening, return to Akademicheskoe for a quiet meal near your accommodation.
Day two: Head into the city on the metro and spend the day around the central stations. Change at Tekhnologichesky Institut to reach Moskovskaya and the surrounding streets, then make your way to Ploshchad Vosstaniya, where Moskovsky Railway Terminal sits. From there you can continue to Finlyandsky Railway Terminal and the embankments of the Obvodny Kanal, using buses or taxis to link the stops.
Day three: Use your last day for the journeys onward. Many travellers leave from Moskovsky Railway Terminal for Moscow, while the Saint Petersburg Bus Terminal serves longer routes; taxis and buses connect these points with Akademicheskoe. Once your transport is sorted, take a final walk through the district before departing.
