Miass

Introduction

Miass sits in Chelyabinsk Oblast, on the eastern slope of the Southern Ural Mountains and on the bank of the river Miass, roughly 96 kilometres west of Chelyabinsk. It is a sizeable industrial city whose population has been declining in recent decades.

Three days in Miass

Day one: Start in Miass itself, a city in Chelyabinsk Oblast on the edge of the Southern Ural Mountains. Get your bearings on foot and take in the layout of the streets and the surrounding hills before deciding how to spend the rest of your time.

Day two: Head out toward Chelyabinsk, the regional centre, to see how the larger city compares with Miass. The route between the two gives you a sense of the wider region you are travelling through.

Day three: Use your last day to return to whatever in Miass you want a second look at, or to explore more of the Southern Ural Mountains setting that shapes the area.
