Jabalya
Introduction
Jabalia, also spelled Jabalya, sits in the North Gaza Governorate of the Gaza Strip, just a few kilometres north of Gaza City. The city municipality is made up of more than one community: alongside Jabalia itself, it takes in the Jabalia refugee camp and the town of Nazla, which was an independent village council before it was merged into Jabalia.
Three days in Jabalya
Day one: Start in Jabalya, the camp at the centre of the North Gaza Governorate, and take your time walking its streets to get your bearings. From there, head south into Gaza City, where you can spend the rest of the day moving between its busy markets and built-up districts. Return to Jabalya in the evening.
Day two: Give the whole day to Jabalia itself. Wander the lanes of the camp, watch daily life unfold around you, and stop for food at the places you pass. In the afternoon, continue to Nazla, a short distance away, for a change of scene before heading back.
Day three: Use your last day to see more of the North Gaza Governorate beyond Jabalya. Travel between its towns and open ground, then loop back through Gaza City for a final look at the Strip's largest urban centre before returning to Jabalya.
