Jaranwala
Introduction
Jaranwala is a city in the Faisalabad District of Punjab, Pakistan, and serves as the capital of Jaranwala Tehsil. It sits within Pakistan's most populous province, in the country's agricultural heartland.
Getting around
Jaranwala is compact enough that you can cover the central areas on foot, using the Pakistani Gate as your landmark for the middle of town; shops, the grain market area and local eateries are all within reach if you stay centrally. Footpaths are uneven or absent in places, so plan your walking for daylight. For anything beyond the core, take an auto-rickshaw or local taxi — they wait at the bus stands, the railway station and the main bazaars, and you should agree the fare before setting off. Ride-hailing apps are worth checking when you arrive, but coverage is thinner here than in Faisalabad or Lahore; if no cars show, fall back on the rickshaws and taxis at the stands.
- The railway station is served by trains from Lahore along the Shorkot–Sheikhupura Branch Line; buy tickets at the booking window and check departure times in advance, since branch line services are limited.
- Daily buses link Jaranwala with Lahore and Faisalabad from the city's bus stands — the cheapest way to reach its larger neighbours.
- Faisalabad's integrated transport plan includes Sub Urban Route 31 (General Bus Stand in Faisalabad to Jaranwala) and Express Route 27 (Khurianwala to Larri Adda via Jaranwala Road); these are connections to and from Faisalabad rather than a way around Jaranwala, and the network is being rolled out in phases, so ask locally before relying on a route.
- Seven main roads leave the city — Lahore–Jaranwala, Faisalabad–Jaranwala, Jaranwala–Nankana, Jaranwala–Satiana, Jaranwala–Shahkot, Jaranwala–Khurrianwala and Jaranwala–Syedwala — useful when explaining a route to a driver. The M3 motorway interchange is a short drive away.
- There is no airport in Jaranwala; the nearest is Faisalabad International Airport, reached by taxi or a pre-arranged car, best booked ahead through your hotel or a local contact. For longer journeys to the motorway, Faisalabad or the airport, arranging a car in advance is easier than finding one on the street.
Three days in Jaranwala
Day one begins in Jaranwala itself, a town in Faisalabad District within Punjab, Pakistan, and the administrative centre of Jaranwala Tehsil. Start by getting your bearings on foot along the footpaths, then head for the General Bus Stand to see how the town connects to the wider region. The Pakistani Gate is a local landmark worth passing by as you settle in. For a change of scene, a ride out to nearby Khurianwala or Larri Adda gives you a sense of the surrounding countryside and smaller settlements.
Day two takes you toward Faisalabad, easily reached from Jaranwala Road. In Faisalabad you can explore the city's bazaars and sample local Pakistani food before returning. If you prefer a slower pace, the daily sub urban route and express route services make it simple to move between towns. In the evening, return to Jaranwala and unwind near the bus stand, where the daily rhythm of the town is most visible.
Day three is for wider excursions. The Shorkot and Sheikhupura Branch Line rail connections open up journeys toward Nankana, Satiana, Shahkot, Khurrianwala and Syedwala, each a short trip from Jaranwala. Lahore is also within reach for a longer day out. If you are flying onward, Faisalabad International Airport is the nearest departure point. End your stay back in Jaranwala, having seen both the town and the patchwork of Punjab around it.
