Jampur

Introduction

Jampur is the capital of Jampur Tehsil in the Rajanpur District of Punjab, Pakistan. The city covers roughly 16.7 square kilometres, and its setting is defined by two contrasting features: about 50 kilometres to the west rise the high, dry and barren mountains of the Sulaiman Range, while the Indus river lies to the east.

Three days in Jampur

Day one: Start in Jampur itself, the town at the heart of Jampur Tehsil in Rajanpur District, Punjab. Get your bearings on the streets and settle into the rhythm of the place before looking outward. As evening comes, the plains around you stay warm, and the light on the Sulaiman Range to the west is worth watching.

Day two: Turn your attention to the wider district and the country beyond the town. Rajanpur District and Punjab give you the regional context, while Pakistan as a whole is the frame for everything you see here. Keep the Sulaiman Range in view as the great landmark on the horizon.

Day three: Follow the water. The Indus is the defining river of this part of Pakistan, and its presence shapes the land around Jampur, Jampur Tehsil and Rajanpur District. Spend your last day along the river and the plains it feeds, with the Sulaiman Range standing over the western edge of Punjab.
