Hasilpur
Introduction
Hasilpur is a city in the Hasilpur Tehsil of Bahawalpur District, in Punjab, Pakistan. It sits in the country's east, positioned between the Satluj River and the border with India, roughly 96 kilometres east of Bahawalpur.
Getting around
Hasilpur has no metro, tram or suburban rail, so you get around by road. The city is compact, and most everyday trips are short. Auto-rickshaws are the default choice for short hops — agree on the fare before you set off. Shared vans and local buses run along the main roads and are the cheapest way to cover longer stretches of town. Walking works well in the central areas, but less so in the heat of the day, so plan errands for the cooler morning and evening hours and carry water. Outside the centre, roads are shared with buses, vans and rickshaws and there is little dedicated pedestrian infrastructure.
The bus stand is the hub of public transport and where you will find both local and intercity services. Buses run fixed routes with scheduled departures, and fares are charged per stop, so you pay for the segment you travel rather than buying a day pass — have small change ready and confirm the fare with the driver or conductor when you board. Services start early in the morning, so arrive at the stand ahead of time if you want a seat. Routes connect Hasilpur with nearby settlements and larger towns, including Old Hasilpur, Mukhtara Bad, Khokar Abad, Batlian, Phatiana Pul, Head Islam Pul and Joiya Hotel on one corridor, and Jahania, Tibba Sultanpur and the surrounding chak addas on another; some continue toward Vehari. Dedicated taxi ranks are not the main way people get around, so for a car and driver — to Bahawalpur or another nearby town — arrange it in advance through your hotel or a local contact rather than expecting to flag one down. Hasilpur has no commercial airport, so arrivals come by road: either a pre-arranged car and driver, or an intercity bus to the bus stand and a rickshaw from there. The city lies between the Satluj River and the Indian border, so stick to the main routes when travelling onward.
Three days in Hasilpur
Day one: Start in Hasilpur itself, in Bahawalpur District, Punjab, and get your bearings on foot through Old Hasilpur, where the older streets and market lanes give you the feel of the town. Walking is the easiest way to cover this ground before the heat builds. Later, head out to Mukhtara Bad and Khokar Abad, two more quarters of the town, and finish with a meal at Joiya Hotel.
Day two: Use Hasilpur as your base for the surrounding Hasilpur Tehsil. Take a shared auto or the local buses to Batlian and Phatiana Pul, then continue to Head Islam Pul on the Satluj River, the waterway that runs through this part of Punjab. The river country is the point of the day, so give yourself time at the water before heading back into town.
Day three: Look beyond the tehsil toward Bahawalpur, the district's main city, or follow the routes toward Jahania, Tibba Sultanpur and Vehari if you want to stay closer. Buses and shared services connect these places, though you should confirm times locally. If your travels take you further, the border with India lies to the east, past the Satluj.
