Poblacion
Introduction
Poblacion is the term used across the Philippines for a city or municipality's administrative center, downtown, old town, or commercial area. The area it covers may take in a single barangay or several, and locally people also call it the bayan, the plaza, or the centro.
Getting around
Poblacion is compact and largely walkable for short errands, with many bus and jeepney stops only a few minutes apart on foot — several within a three- to five-minute walk of one another. Jeepneys are the workhorse for short hops in and around the neighbourhood, with routes including Guadalupe–Makati, Guadalupe Ibabaw–Ayala, Ayala–Pateros via J.P. Rizal, Ayala–Guadalupe Ibabaw via J.P. Rizal, Makati P. Burgos–L. Guinto, Bel-Air–Washington, Buendia Kalayaan–F. Bonifacio, Buendia LRT Taft–Guadalupe, Cartimar–EDSA/Buendia via Bel Air, Guadalupe–Cartimar via Roxas Blvd, Guadalupe–Delpan MRT, and Pateros–Ayala. Convenient boarding points within a short walk of the neighbourhood include the Guerrero/Makati Ave intersection, the Makati Ave/Hercules intersection, Makati CBD, the Senator Gil Puyat Ave/Makati Avenue intersection, the J.P. Rizal Ave/M.L. Quezon intersection, the Paseo De Roxas/Senator Gil Puyat Ave intersection, and the Coronado/E. Pantaleon intersection. For longer trips, point-to-point buses connect the area with Alabang Town Center–Century City Mall and Eastwood–Makati CBD, and a regular Alabang–Lawton via Sucat bus also serves the area.
Rail is within reach but not on the doorstep: Guadalupe MRT is roughly a half-hour walk from the Poblacion area, with trains running toward Taft Avenue, and Pasay Road PNR is a longer walk still. Most visitors pair the train with a short jeepney or taxi ride for the final leg. Taxis and ride-hailing are commonly used in Metro Manila for door-to-door trips and for bridging the gap between a station and your accommodation — confirm the fare or app estimate before setting off, and agree on the meter or price with a street taxi before departing. A transit app such as Moovit can help with planning, though its schedules and routes are crowd-sourced and subject to change, and fares are often not listed. Note that many Philippine towns and cities have a Poblacion, and some cities have more than one, so if someone gives you directions "to Poblacion," confirm which one they mean. Keep small bills handy for jeepney and bus fares, and allow extra time during peak hours.
Three days in Poblacion
Day one: Start in Poblacion itself, the old riverside quarter of Makati, and spend the morning on foot, moving between Burgos, Guerrero and Hercules to get your bearings. Break for lunch, then continue along Makati Avenue toward the Makati CBD, where Ayala and Paseo De Roxas give you a sense of the city's other face. In the evening, return to Poblacion for dinner.

Day two: Head out along Senator Gil Puyat Ave and Buendia, using Jeepneys to reach Cartimar, where you can browse the market. From there, continue toward Bel Air and Bel, then loop back via Buendia LRT Taft if you want to see how the light rail stitches the districts together. Keep the pace easy and let the streets set the rhythm.

Day three: Take a longer ride out to Guadalupe and Guadalupe Ibabaw, then follow the river toward Pateros in Rizal for a change of scenery. On your way back, pass through Century City Mall and Eastwood if you want a modern contrast to the older quarters. End the day with a slow walk along Roxas Blvd as the light fades.
