While certain areas may appear safe, thieves operate in central locations; avoid displaying valuables or taking photos while walking through these zones. Additionally, exercise extra caution in Pimentel, as reports indicate that robberies can occur in broad daylight near the beach.
Getting there
You can reach the city by air via the Capitan José A. Quiñones Gonzálezo Airport located at the eastern edge of town. Several airlines provide flights to this destination, including connections from Lima, Iquitos, Tarapoto, and Panama City. Once you land, you will find souvenir shops, small restaurants, and an ATM in the departure area. Taxis available in the parking lot serve as your best way into the city center.
