Delegacion Cuajimalpa de Morelos
Introduction
Cuajimalpa de Morelos sits on the west side of Mexico City, where the Sierra de las Cruces mountains separate the capital from the State of Mexico. The borough takes its name from the former rural town of Cuajimalpa, which has since been absorbed by urban sprawl. For visitors, the main draw is the Desierto de los Leones National Park, the first national park declared in Mexico. The borough is also home to the second largest annual passion play in Mexico City.Three days in Delegacion Cuajimalpa de Morelos
Day one: Base yourself in Cuajimalpa and get your bearings in this delegación of Mexico City, which sits where the city meets the Sierra de las Cruces. The pace here is set by the mountains rather than the capital's centre, so start gently and let the altitude and the surrounding green edges of the State of Mexico shape your first day.
Day two: Head for Desierto de los Leones National Park, the wooded expanse that gives Cuajimalpa its reputation as a gateway to the Sierra. Spend the day among the trees and the cool mountain air, which can turn damp and misty without much warning, so bring a layer. This is the day to slow down and walk rather than rush between sights.
Day three: Use Cuajimalpa as your launch point for the wider Sierra de las Cruces and the border country toward the State of Mexico. Keep the day loose, following the mountain roads and returning to Cuajimalpa in the evening, when the air grows cold and the city lights below come into view.
