Ait Melloul
Introduction
Aït Melloul sits on Morocco's west coast, on the southern bank of the Sous River. It forms part of the suburban area around Agadir, positioned just southeast of Inezgane, and it is the most populous city in Inezgane-Aït Melloul Prefecture.
When to go
Ait Melloul has a mild, temperate climate, shaped by Atlantic air currents, dry southern currents and hot Saharan winds. The hot, dry season is when the dry southern currents and hot Saharan winds most influence conditions, bringing heat and little rain; plan your outdoor time accordingly, favouring early mornings or evenings and keeping water on hand.
Winters are mild and temperate rather than cold, with Atlantic air currents keeping conditions moderate. This makes the cooler months a comfortable stretch for being outside and exploring the city on foot.
Three days in Ait Melloul
Day one: Base yourself in Aït Melloul, a town in Morocco on the Sous River. It sits close to Agadir and Inezgane, so you can use it as a starting point for exploring the wider area. Spend your first day getting oriented in Aït Melloul itself, within Aït Melloul Prefecture, and take in the riverside setting along the Sous River.
Day two: Head toward the Atlantic coast and the city of Agadir, which lies near Aït Melloul. The Saharan influence shapes the climate and landscape here, and winters are mild, so you can comfortably spend the day outdoors. Pair your coastal time with a visit to Inezgane, a nearby town known for its markets and everyday life.
Day three: Return to Aït Melloul and slow down. Winters here are pleasant, making it a good time to walk along the Sous River and appreciate the town's position between the Saharan interior and the Atlantic. Use the day to revisit anything you enjoyed in Aït Melloul or Inezgane before you move on.
